Yes, It's called ETOPS, the engines are more powerful and there are many more redundant systems. Most 747 have 4 engines at about 46,000 lbs thrust where the 777 has 2 at 70,000 + yup. There are also much more stringent maintenance requirements and fault reporting. Also, the 747-200 is very old, having been replace by the -300 and later the -400.

Actually the engines on the triple 7 (77W or 777-300er) now are exclusive of the GE90-115....that's 115k lbs of thrust each!

I don't think you will get too much more big engines the way they are now. The can only be so heavy because they are balanced.

Maybe if they really wanted more engine, the will have to take the GE90-115 and take a second one cut into quarters lenghwise, build over the casing of the original; and fill in the fan gaps and compressors and so on. Creating a two in one package where there is a inner core made of the original engine followed by a outer engine can You can probably have the inner engine's waste heat help drive the other engine in the unit.

 

Yeah they've actually announced they are abandoning the passenger variant. Four engines are not as fuel efficient as 2 holers.... With the exception of Emirates, no is ordering the A380.

 

I have the FSX retail disk on that plane, what a beauty. I am working on trying to get as far as the A380 can under a full load just to show them, Getting it to stay in the coffin corner on chart performance with the least fuel burn is a challenge.

 

Are you familiar with the PMDG 737 or 777 add ons for FSX? They are incredibly realistic!!! If you like flying commercial or heavies you'll love em. I go through the entire process/checklist of start up to flight.

The closest to 737 I think is the standard FSX model. It's a nice little plane.

I have a certain amount of budgeting for purchasing game things every so often and Im pretty sure I will eventually get these planes. I have several hundred games dating back decades, many of which have add ons etc.
