Hello I am a new driver just out of school in the Cleveland Oh area and I am trying to get into Gordon Foods, they seem to be the only local route hiring right know. Why should I stay away from them?

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I guess its fine if you are just starting out, but you will find that Drivers dont stay,They get payed by the Load, We get Paid by the Hour. Its hard to find a Driver that makes more then $ 35000 a year.

Well said hemiram!!! by the hour it adds up....

Truckdriver23 what is it like working for sygma?? Are they union??

Hey DR5169, I worked for US Foodservice in Los Angeles for 2 years. That was my 2nd trucking job, and although they later required their new-hires to have 2 years class A exp. they hired me as a recent grad. I think I impressed their recruiter during my road test (a definite miracle).
On the plus side, I made lots of $$ working overtime and was home every single night. And in my own experience, the money was better than OTR ($21/hour).
On the minus side, most days I got home and only had time to shower, cook, eat, & watch a movie (if I could stay awake). The hours blow, but you'll get a good workout every day that's for sure.
On a personal note, after the way I was treated by US Foodservice's management, I would never work for them again. But then maybe their LA division is just different; the LA population certainly were some of the most uncivil I've met, which is why I moved back to NC. Or it could've been that it was a big Teamsters Union shop, where the erstwhile US Foods management was taught to view all unions as the ENEMY.
In any case, I quickly got tired of having to constantly be on my guard to defend myself against "write-ups" for alleged "policy violations," while at the same time working 12-14 (and sometimes 16) hours a day.
Whatever you decide to do, DR5169, I wish you luck!
Have a happy 2009! -
Bigredgoad just wanted to thank you for the honest feedback...I really appreciate it...

I also just got a job with Sygma right out of school...

Sysco wanted a year experience when I was hired by them two years ago. But we have a guy that was hired from a huterite colony, (Amish style) with no real delivery experience. So, who knows.
