Semantics plays too large a role for O/Os within these pages. When I use the term, "My driver," it is because I have earned the trust & confidence of that O/O - I proved myself effective in boosting the company's profit margin, for being resourceful, and available when called upon. You are on point that the pool of O/Os I dispatch are in strict terms my "Clients." But your criticism on this point - like that of many others equally critical, overlooks why I refer to them as "My drivers" - because we have built a friendship founded on the mutual trust & confidence.
Just as I must earn the trust & confidence of the driver; the driver needs to earn my trust & confidence as well.
I must "know" that the driver will not only fulfill the obligations of his dispatch; but also not transgress other boundaries such as: Conducting oneself respectfully with others during stops, including the use of language - managing one's temperament, etc. when issues arise; no "back soliciting" on brokered loads, and as silly as this sounds: using the restroom as opposed to peeing on the side of the building, verify that the BOL matches the PU and /or the delivery, and is properly signed & dated at all stops, among more.
Trust & confidence is a two way street, and anyone thinking otherwise is simply incorrect. Among my drivers, this is exactly what we have. Simple matters that come about at stops are sometimes dealt with on the spot by the driver. But per the SOP between my drivers and I, it is I who resolves issues at any stop. The driver calls me, advises of the situation, and I contact the stop or broker and resolve the matter.
It is this mutual trust that forms basis of the friendship between me and my drivers. It's not a sweetheart relationship by any stretch - we sometimes get angry at one another, but we always move past it. As a matter of earned mutual respect, trust & confidence, those who once started off as "Clients" are now my friends, and I call them "My Drivers" because - as you know, in trucking the top-notch is "Driver."

As for the 5% you threw out there as my potential pay - that is if you were to stoop low enough to use a dispatch service, is mighty generous of you seeing how my fee is only 3.25% of the load with a $45 min.
I am not going to get rich dispatching at this rate, but I like what I do, I like working from home, and most of all it's a great feeling when I call the boss about I load I got him and hear his genuine appreciation for having done him and his equipment well.MagnumaMoose, W900AOwner and nightgunner Thank this. -

@JL of Indiana: Thank you for calling it like it is. I am not, of course, implying that you are somehow sympathetic to my position, just thanking you for calling it like you saw it. -
I do not have much opportunity to visit the site with long work hours, and life in general so I do apologize for the untimely response to your reply, which personifies those I serve: Hard working, dedicated O/Os who stop to genuinely weigh the potential gain of using a dispatch service against the potential losses of self-dispatching - as opposed to an outright rejection on the ill presumption that using a dispatch service is some kind of cop out. Thank you, and I wish you great success in your business.W900AOwner Thanks this. -
I hope that JL of Indiana did not take you up on your offer to work with you.
Again, I'm not trying to start a fight here or be disrespectful, I just don't understand why you, or anyone for that matter, find it necessary to speak to anyone like you.stayinback Thanks this. -
@MHC tried texting you this morn. You can pm me by going to the little dots at the top of page then choose conversations. Hope to hear from you soon. Have a good day.
