Hang in there MCR! The last OTR co. I drove for would have us haul garbage out of Jersey (because we pulled good freight in there). And when I say garbage, I mean Garbage- Non-Hazardous Mixed Solid Waste (MSW). The loads were at least 40k (in a Van), and the worst part was in the summer they would steam and weep. Then you get to the landfill, and if it had been raining, then the pit would be exactly like you described- only we'd have to hit the tipper, where they'd tip the trailer (w/o tractor) and dump out the refuse. After which we'd have to get a washout and drop the MT with the doors open (to try and get the stink to dissapate). And if you were pulling one of their old, wood-lined trailers, then forget it.

And as bad as that sounds, I had an experience that I call 'The Trailer of Death'. This happened when I was pulling a reefer for Cov.-I grabbed it in C'Bus, cracked it open (this was in July 05) and the smell almost knocked me out! The Ducts in the floor were full of congealed blood, there were maggots inside, and the doofus who was pulling this had not gotten a washout, nor removed the freeze plugs in the rear (leading to the pooled blood). I washed that sucker out twice, let it sit for the night with the doors open, and then finally scattered 1.5 lbs of ground coffee in it, and that finally covered the smell up. It stunk so bad, that people in all three bays at the Streakin' Beacon were running outside, or trying to find out where that horrible smell was coming from. (And despite this, I am going back on the road to pull a reefer again- go figure!)

I know things suck at Covenant, but they will get better. Take care!

The only people getting a break at Cov are the "TRAINERS" which Wallbanger probably is. Get out. Don't hire in. I worked there three and a half years and kept hoping it would get better. I was depressed all the time. IT WILL NOT GET BETTER BECAUSE COVENANT IS A CORPORATION and IT"S ALL ABOUT MONEY!

Hey VicSecret, that was uncalled for. I am not a trainer at Covenant. And while things may not get better at Covenant, once MCR has his DAC cleaned up and some recent OTR experience, he can move onto a better company- and it could even happen soon. I merely meant that a positive attitude will help him through his crappy time at Covenant.

    I agree with Wallbanger.

I noticed that you edited your post to remove an insult.
    I think you missed one.
Here's a secret, Victoria --- lose the attitude.
    That would "probably" help.

    :biggrin_25510:COVENANT ON THE WAR PATH:
Today i received about 3 messages about idleing. They are asking everyone to lower the idle time to 30% and no more...anyone going over will be charged by payroll deduction for the over idle.
My question is this, how can anyone ask that a driver not idle in the cold weather we have been having? and in places like up north w/the ice storms? would they really do that? YOU BET THEY WOULD!
They are mean spirited people all the way from the top to the lowest A-HOLE at the shop.....they are a waste of::sign10: in this time of the holiday season to have a so called "christian" company come out with these messages would make scrooge look like a --sissy--.:biggrin_25510:
I even want to ask, when will the driving force of this country stand up for itself? the
answer is never, because we are wrapped up in ourselves, we don't care about the whole team, therefore these employers will do what they wish when they wish to.
we lack leadership and backbone, another factor they take into consideration.
what will it take to get them to change? a driver dieing out here frozen in his/her truck?:biggrin_2554:
death usually is a catalyst that forces change, we have seen that time and time over.but i don't think we should let it get to that point,we are out here to make a living, and they make there living from us being out here...therefore i resist being pushed and shoved, told to be cold or bake in this tin box.
lastly, are they going to offer a hotel/motel room? do they have terminals with warm dorms? HELL NO THEY WON'T!
and they sit at home warm and cozy watching the news and weather, how many of them feel bad for the drivers they push these --idiotic --rules on? probably none.
it's a world with a dividing fence,us on one side and them on the other, and we stand our ground as they trash us and demoralize us.....
we wish all the drivers a happy holiday, even in such harsh cicumstances.:reindeer:
we will never be rid of all the scrooges!
REMBER THAT GREED AND INDIFFERENCE TOWARDS YOUR FELLOW MAN SERVE THIS MASTER: :MEGA1::MEGA1:

Todays news from covenant in regards to too many accidents so far in december in regards to last month, they are going so far as to threaten to shut down the entire fleet if need be unless the drivers get a grip on the situation....can it be that the ratio of "new" drivers to seasoned drivers is off?:biggrin_2554:....they want cheap labor so this is the only way to do it....
Then again alot of seasoned drivers get "complacent"...and are just as dangerous as a newbie, and this has been proven.
Maybe if covenant were to hire seasoned drivers, pay them well, and give them incentives to be safe when the weather/road conditions are bad....
they can nip this problem right away...but greed is totally consuming...
and they like other companies will fill the seats with less experienced drivers and will have to pay for the actions of these drivers.....
also you need to consider the "QUALITY" of training they get to deal with
the winter/road conditions. Many trainers see the trainee as a fat paycheck and thats all....and this is also the root of the problem.:biggrin_25511:

In regards to accidents... Covenant had a mantatory shutdown yesterday in Iowa... just at the border... as i sat in the TA I saw Covenant drivers roll in and out.. This was due to ice on the roads. So I would suspect that some of the drivers bring the accidents upon themselves. Saw one Covenant Driver cooling his load on the IN trpk. made the mistake of going over to the shoulder which was plainly covered in ice. Slow down, watch for black ice, watch for ice on bridges, if tired... pull over and take a nap.. the load is not that important... send a mac 39... send a msg driver taking a safety break. tis the season for high winds with snow... ice and more ice...
