Ok, Just what I wanted to know. Then how are those guys in Williston making that kind of money? They must have a different schedule? I have seen companies do that before. Make the schedule so you CAN'T make any real money. Oh, well. It was a shot, It would have been good for me as I live close (enough).
But if they limit the overtime, then, "Another one bites the dust".
Thanks! -
No, It's not illegal. Slimey, YES! Illegal? No

I had high hopes with them also, thinking it was the golden egg with easy work and good money until the time came to hear about the schedule. If you go to the interview, just ask about the schedule starting days.
There is plenty of money to be made in places. If you go to a company that the pay period is mon-sun and your schedule is 5 or 6 days a week, you get plenty of hours on OT. Just a question you have to ask during the interview. But I do see many places that do rotating schedules like 4/2, 5/2-5/3, or 6/2 which also affects OT depending on the calendar.
Good luck guysLast edited: Jan 29, 2018

Here's what I was told by someone at another oilfield company: Halliburton and Schlumberger will take someone new and train them for oilfield work, but the pay isn't great. After that, with either of those on your resume, you're gold to other companies.
The other positive for a driver is that nice equipment means fewer inspection failures. I've been in other company yards where every truck there was dicey. Not that I mind driving old beat-up stuff, but DPS has different notions than I do.
BTW I was told that New Mexico is thinking about going to 50 hours/week for CDL drivers. That would put a crimp in working out of Hobbs.All-American82 Thanks this. -
Recruiter is looking into Cheyenne about hours and housing. Another recruiting session in Denver mid-Feb.
And it could be worse. One company that called wanted me to live in the truck and work 24/7, no off days or cycles, and promise to never sleep more than 4 hours at a time. -
Trying to break into oil field like trucking by working for Halliburton is like going to dental school to be a proctologist. I've gone an entire 28 day hitch without actually driving a truck.
I've worked 14/7, 21/7, 28/14, , 35/35 and we always started the hitch mid-week. Why? We wanted a full weekend off. Would you want to be off Monday-Saturday and have to be at work at 0001 Sunday morning? -
The only reason to start week mid pay period is beneficial only for the company and they know this. Rig companies do the same thing. The reason is the bean counters in the office said “if we start mid week, we only have to pay 8hrs OT instead of 44 in a week”.

Dunno.....never worked for a drilling company. It only took two days for me to get into OT back then so I didn't really care. I'd rather have a full weekend off if I didn't have multiple weeks off.
