Bunk heat laws?

The last time I had an issue with my bunk heater not working I made one call to support shift who arranged for a taxi to the hotel, hotel, and taxi back. They even had a process to pay for the taxi so I wouldn't be out of pocket, I paid cash and got reimbursed because it was easier, but I didn't have to be out of pocket for anything. The next day I worked out a plan to get routed into a shop with the parts (surprisingly difficult as everyone would have to order parts 3-7 day wait time), with a hotel lined up every night until I got into a company shop a few days later. #####ed and moaned on here about the hassle, but it didn't hurt my paycheck any.

Shop cracked a ceramic part puting in the new heater core, so three days later I was back to square one. They deadheaded me home 500 miles.

Problems happen, adults find solutions. I recomend listening into both sides of the conversation between dispatch and guys like the OP. Its enlightening to see just how poorly drivers communicate their issues and how they ignore the help thats offered.

Case in point - driver misses a turn into the operating center, ending up in the residential area behind the OC. Calls the OC, but is so freaked out that he can't tell us where he is. Everytime we ask he shouts about how he's lost so how can he tell us where he is. When we ask for a driver number or truck number or how to spell his last name he freaks out on us about how he needs help and why aren't we helping him. If he could give us basic information we could have told him how to get turned around or we could have easilt come and got him, but he can't/won't so I get in the company car to try and find him, when I do he's blaming Schneider for everything. The only thing Schneider did wrong was hire the guy in the first place.

Schneider has a lot of communication issues, not to mention other issues, but some of this falls back on the driver.

Getting back to the op - he has/had a parksmart equiped truck. I believe that parksmart is only for cooling the truck and there is a seperate bunk heater. I also believe the OP has been trying to heat the truck with parksmart and not the bunk heater. Schneider should have ensured he knew how to run the bunk heater before he left out after "being down for a week for bunk heater repairs", but the OP should have made sure the darn thing worked before leaving out.

The shop and other staff have expressed to me that the parksmart is my bunk heater.

I heard a guy yesterday on a Road Dog show call in saying he used a Wal-Mart camping heater with those little "screw in bottles" to keep him warm in his bunk.
He said , "it'll run you right out of there".

SMH.

Some truck drivers aren't all that intelligent, and that guy will likely soon be dead of carbon monoxide poisoning.
They asked him if it was safe to use in a closed space and he said, "I guess".

It's not.

As for the OP.. If your boss won't provide you some type of comfort, find another job.
You're not an animal.
P*s$ on his bottom line. He sleeps in his house with a/c and heat at much lower thresholds than you've been given.
I've never been treated that way, and day ONE that it starts I can GUARANTEE you that I'm G.O.N.E.

I'm a veteran driver that gets it done.. I don't tear up equipment.. I don't have accidents.. get tickets.. etc..
I won't be treated like a mangy dog.

You shouldn't either... whether you're a rookie or a 30 year driver.

I’d drive that pos to their nearest terminal get a hotel and find a new job in the morning.

How are you going to let someone who makes millions tell you you can’t have heat? There is no excuse for that.

I was in a company truck that had a 3 minute idle time and one of those buttons to prevent shutdown. I got super nerdy and took an RC airplane servo, glued it above the button, wired a servo tester to a 12v plug. It would sit there and press the button automatically over and over. lol I was pretty #### proud of it.

When I have to take a OTR load, if the idle timer is set, I tell them up front 55 to 70 I'll sleep in the truck otherwise they pay for the room. Any problems, no problem send another driver.
