Made it to delivery in Chicago. Wasnt bad. Except here is a tip for you guys starting out. When delivering to bigger cities always check your atlas instead of just going by driver directions. Driver directions said "290 to exit 25 (kostner ave) go south 2 lights customer on right" Well those directions were spot on....if coming from 290 west, but I was coming 290 east and there was no exit 25. GPS wanted me take exit 24b but I listened to driver directions skipped 24b and next exit was 26c....DOH!! Had to recalculate route go down 3 miles take exit and then get on 290 west which took me to the exit 25 I needed. Had I checked my map last night I would've seen no ex 25 on eastbound side. USE YOUR MAPS! Thats my friendly tip of the day lol

Have had 2 in about 2.5 years both OTR & local driving. I currently drive local all around NY State and northern PA. They are super aggressive in NY and have DOT check points everywhere. Most are unmarked at the street level but are on Trucker Path. Not weigh stations like in GA etc... pull offs for level 1-3 inspections. I'd rather roll thru a weigh station any day. I did have to stop at a NY one recently. The trooper asked me a few questions, listened for any air leaks and cut me loose with no real official inspection. Many times I see creepers out and hoods open so I lucked out.

Most days I spend a lot of time just avoiding them. I may pass inspection checkpoints multiple times a day. All on different routes. It is really excessive and ridiculous in my opinion.

I do not avoid them because I know of anything wrong, just to avoid the time kill it could be and the potential. And you know the old saying, if you look hard enough you'll find something that is ticketable. It is all about generating revenue for the state. Probably is for most states but definitely here in NY.

No doubt about it. Be sure you're going in the same way as the driver directions, if not you gotta work with what you have.

Get unlimited data on your phone and use Google maps to plot your course, check driver directions and GPS directions. It's worth the price. @Steelersjunkie taught me that trick.

There's a lesson to be learned by your post. Ref that load from hades I had in Clifton NJ. I got fickle finger fates, more ##'s, more disgust in people's face when I blocked the whole darn street with that blond side back. Funny, it didn't bother me. I was focused on getting my delivery on time and the public's safety. To hell with their imconveiniance, er however ya spell it.

That load taught me something. Priority is safety for yourself and the motoring public. The inconvenience I've caused you in getting my job done means a tit on a boar hog to me.
