Well since you asked I’d prefer to abolish welfare and food stamps. I think it’s great if a person wants to better themselves. If trucking is their way more power to them. That doesn’t mean it’s the companies responsibility to feed them. If a guy is going to show up to trainer by broke then he has no one to blame but himself. Maybe he should flip burgers and save some money before going to training.

What in the Blue Hell is this obsession with flipping burgers.
Whatever dude. -
I guess the general concensious is that people going into trucking are uneducated bums. Thus the “burger flipping “ reference.

That's a bunch of crap. There's just a growing number of sanctimonious posters who feel some need to attempt to sound superior to others. It would be altogether fitting for those people to walk a mile in the shoes of those they mock.
Now comes the flood of posts about how they all pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps from the depths of grinding poverty and oppression .
Hogwash. -
Well, you could always do it there gangsta way. I went to truck school, took loan, and never looked back.
Two years down the line and 8.5K loan owed, I settle for $1500. It was removed from my credit and my credit shot up. I then disputed the account and had it removed ENTIRELY from my credit.
So, I never took a loan.

A couple of questions for you guys. I'm in swift school. I'm broke but i knew what it was when i signed up. What's swift actual rate if you know. My info so far is a min of 200 hour with a trainer (which i wanna burn as soon as possible). Is there a better oppurtunity out of the gate after i get my cdl. My test is friday. P.S. I'm new to trucking but worked in warehousing as a teamster for many years so I'm not so removed from the industry. One of my former colleagues who was our yard jockey is actually one of my instructers.

Swift tells you upfront to bring at least $300 in cash, and the only food provided is that from the hotel which happens to serve hot breakfast anyway. If you don't have $300, it's probably a bad idea to leave home for 4 weeks with no pay, plus, if you flunk out and were dumb enough to ride a company paid greyhound out there, they DO NOT pay for a return ticket. Word is there are several homeless people wondering around as a result at any given city where there's an academy.
