According to my boss (the terminal manager at the Johnstown, NY DC), Knight wouldn't be taking over anyway; Knight simply doesn't have the infrastructure to do the job. Legally, they can't simply change the name on the Swift trucks. Knight and Swift are still independent companies, even though they are both owned by a third company.
My bet is that Walmart thinks they can get a better rate from another company, and has opened up the bidding process. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Swift get Pottsville back. -

I am out of the Johnstown DC, too! Small world.

Are you talking about the Pottsville, PA location?

I'm curious. Were you allowed to keep your Swift trucks on the lot when you went off duty? Or did you have to start your days by driving to the DC from offsite?
I drove out of there over a decade years ago with Schneider. They allowed us to park there for about two weeks then decided the lot was for Walmart trucks only. Having to start our clocks before we got dispatched was a real pain in the neck. How were things lately? -
I only delivered back hauls down there, and then Got a dispatch back towards my home DC, in Johnstown.

Bidding should be done. Whoever was awarded the DC should have it.
