Proper method to tensioning chain binders?

    Old post, but no one told him how to fasten the chains to trailer. To each his own on the binders.

    Oh the old snap vs ratchet debate. Everybody has their own preference.

    We've switched over to mostly ratchets. Especially on our Landoll where it only has chain slots to attach the chain to the trailer. When using slots, you can't get a 1/2 link and can make it a pain to use snaps.

    We've always used a cheater pipe on snaps. One main thing I see novices doing is not holding on tight to the cheater. I saw a cheater slip out of a driver's hand one time and probably went 30' into the air. Luckily, it landed harmlessly in the parking lot, but there were other people and trucks everywhere, it's just pure luck it didn't hit somebody.

    I just purchased a HT35 Talbert with the chain slots, they are spoiling me!

    I love the chain slots, if for nothing more than it keeps you from scratching up the side of the trailer with the chains. Our Landoll even has a set running down the center of the deck, I haven’t found a use for them yet.

    A friend of mine just the other day said the same thing about scratching the side of the trailer.
    I was originally looking for a travelling axle Landoll and noticed some had the chain slots in the middle, i found out through a dealer that its a option.
    I couldn't find a good used Landoll and looked at the new ones but i couldn't justify the price, most of my small moves are framer forklifts in tight areas, found a used 2017 HT35 for over 20K under new, wanted a Landoll but settled for the HT35.
    Is yours a NGL?

    Yes, a 2016 NGL 440a.

    We have to have the capability to load/unload from ground or dock so we also have the dock leveling cylinders.

    Landoll has Youtube video of the NGL vs the older version side by side which shows how much faster the NGL is, and the remote control is sweet too, Good Luck with it!

    While the manufacturer tends to say "only by hand" you can never get them tight enough to be safe. When using your snipe bar, keep your feet planted on the ground and pull down towards the ground, and don't put too much force on it or it might snap or stretch the chain.

    Best advice I could give via internet....watch Dale Clay on YouTube. He is a Maverick driver and has 2 years worth of Videos. His earlier ones show more on the settlement side. Cheers.
