I now am dealing with Watkins & Shepard but they want $4k to go thru their 4 week training!![]()

I am set to start training with SWIFT December 31st in AZ but I am seeing other posts that SWIFT
recruiters are calling prospects back and telling them "class canceled." I sure hope not. If anyone has info please post.
Thanks -
We're suppose to start next weds, the 17th. I've got serious doubts that I'll pass the workwell test at this point but I'm going to try. I asked our recruiter about canceled classes he said none have been but that through the holidays sometimes they don't get enough students. Call your recruiter Monday is my advice. -

I'm with swift. and that 'pre-hired' letter is nothing more than a piece of paper. Nobody is 'pre-hired'. I went thru their school in Idaho, and they were pretty straight forward with me saying that the 3 week school was nothing more than an extended interview process, and by no means, after graduation, you were not 'automaticly hired' with swift. You arent hired until they assign you a driver code.

Someone posted a day or two ago that Swift is closing their schools for the time being. Things are slowing down all over the place.

Didn't know about closing their schools, BUT i will tell you, that even as i sat here in Memphis, they still had orientation going on, and about 20 students with their backpacks, and sleeping bags, etc. I know as of about 10 days ago, the school at Richmond was still in operation, but that don't mean if what you say is true, they arent already shut down.
All i do know, is that even the students they have going thru classes or coming off mentor's trucks, nobody is getting hired or assigned a truck till April. That is what i've heard. Any truck out there that is more than 4 years old, once that driver quits/canned or leaves the truck sit for 3 days, they are going to park that truck.
One thing i know too, is swift wants all their 4+ year old trucks off the road by the end of Jan. I read where they bought 11k new Internationals, and 3,000+ KWs. Where i'm sitting, i can see atleast 11-13 newer trucks. some are O/O blue, some are white. the only terminal allowed to assign newer trucks is Phoenix. -
Thanks for the info. I'd try and find that post, but there are so many that I see in one day it's hard to remember where I see some things!
With the state of the industry, it's not surprising that companies are not putting all the new drivers they 'hire' into trucks. -
