Are there any trucking companys out there hiring old experience truckers? I have been out of the biz for 25 years and went and got my CDL-A with N&T last month after 20 hours of a local refresher course and everyone I have applied to so far requires anywhere from 3 months to 1 year recent experience! I am presently waiting for Swift to get me an opening for orientation in Syracuse,NY but thats my only iron in the fire after weeks of filling out apps. online etc. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Birdeye

Your best bet is to go with an starter company, get 6-12 months and move on to a better company.Right now its hard to find work so whatever you can get is better than notthing.

    Good luck.

Some people on here have said that refresher courses don't carry much wieght unless it is like 50 hrs and the school is highly respected {whatever that means} by the trucking industry. I am in the same boat as needing some kind of training, ie- refresher or something. I was wondering what is enough training for someone in yours and my case also. You would think the companies that train people to drive would be happy to shorten the process, but I guess they make money on the training. Hope you find something. Let us know. :yes2557:

From what i'm told about 160 hours! I have 20 and passed the road test with the N&T endorsements, like the trainer said it's like riding a bicycle you'll never forget, and when I got in I felt like I never left over 25 years! Out of all 25-30 apps I sent out, Swift has been trying to find me a slot for 3 weeks now and Watkins & Shepard want $4,000.00 for 4 weeks of thier training in Montana! At least Swift has a terminal in Upstate NY about 4 hours north of me!

    Good Luck to you also!
