As much as you need to keep them.

Have they run together before? For how long? Excellent experience, driving record and history?
How many miles did they run As a team last year? Were they looking for a job or were you looking for them? If they’ve already been running together and work well together, they’re a goldmine. If that’s the case, see the above post. Got a number for in mind for a team, Mr @Ridgeline ?

As high as you can stand it. ESPECIALLY for a Husband Wife team.

We did that work for around .75 to the truck roughly, however a dollar would be very nice because I consider .50 for a solo to be starting wage. But I do understand that freight has to be up at or above 2.50 to support that kind of wage.

If you can even put say 1.30 to a H/W team add up the average miles and if you are close to or at 1500 net per driver per week, I think you are right where it needs to be to keep them long term. You could even pay salary. That will remove any griping some weeks that they sit and not used to it.

But you have to consider the freight. We ran McKesson overnight from Memphis anywhere east of the Rockies to the NE coast. And as a Team that is possible day in and day out. (East of the rockies is a generalization, most of our medicines went to Detroit which has such a crying need for those high dollar medicines... and one very special 9-11 load to Linfield CT from Detriot.

Anyway... teams run best say from LA to NYC and return twice a week. That's around 6500 miles maybe 7000 I forget exactly in total. Im pretty sure if you have those kinds of lanes like say Yakima to Boston and return you should not have to think too hard about paying a good team. It would be a win win situation.
