I have to give you kudos on that one. It's tangled into immigration so heavily, I don't know if it will ever be seperated.
It's going to be tough too. Especially with the economy of both countries taking a dive for the moment. And the folks that are looking for work. Are turning to trucking, as their salvation. Sadly, they will only find themselves deeper in debt. After school loans.
For now, the Mexican drivers are at a complete disadvantage with the American public. Until employment starts to creep up again. It most likely will stay that way.

You're correct and it was purposely done that way by Hoffa and others to inflame the passions and prejudices of the uninformed.
When you think about it, what concrete evidence has Jimmy Hoffa, who has led the charge against Mexican trucks offered to bolster his argument? Nothing other than a psuedo ficitional article written by author Charles Bowden who allegedly went to Mexico at the behest of Hoffa and on his payroll and returned with an outrageous story that had no proof to back up his claims. Todd Spencer and others jumped on that bandwagon and expanded it.
Their latest feeble attempt is that Mexican trucks don't meet FMVSS safety standards (because some may lack a sticker on the door pillar) But logic would tell us that these trucks, some which are bought in the US and reintroduced into Mexico, the trucks manufactured in Mexico on the same line as the trucks exported to the US are identical, which they are, except for options and wheelbase length.
They have used the old Schneider and JB Hunt trucks in service as cross border drayage rigs to back up this argument which shows the intentional lies of this bunch. American used trucks would have been built to American standards.
But for all intents and purposes, the Mexican truck issue is dead for the moment.
Who won? Depends on how you look at it. Nobody really. But the fact that the program ran it's intended first year without accident, incident or serious safety violations, I would suggest that the critics of the program have been totally debunked.
Have you noticed how quiet it has been lately about the program? A few feeble squeals from the opposition but nothing more.
Barak Obama has the endorsement of the Teamsters, and seeing as how Obama has promised each and every one of us what we want to hear, and the fact that a Teamsters spokesperson publically stated that "We are certain the program will be killed once and for all under and Obama administration", they're waiting for the election to be over.
We'll see. But if they do, you can expect lawsuits, injunctions, challenges all the way up to the Supreme Court by participants and interested parties to the program.
Mexico will rightfully have the option to throw up certain tariffs on good entering their country in addition to imposing sanctions of I believe $10 million a day until their trucks are allowed back on our roads.
It is something we agreed to in good faith, and like it or not, we need to be a country that keeps it word. Not one that selectively chooses what we perceive to be in our best interest and to hell with the rest of our neighbors -
1 language 1 flag. Welcome to America, now please speak english.

Mexico is a beautiful country and the the people I have come to know are good people....
But...it's the politicians up here who institute programs that favor the Mexican workers over Americans that I take issue. I am tired of the politicians condemning American workers as "over-paid and lazy"; and then praise the Mexican workers as "productive and enthusiastic".
I am tired of the idiots like Fabio Nunez (the speaker of the CA Assembly), Gil Cedillo (the author of SB 60), and Antonio Villaraigosa (the mayor of L.A. and the "projected" first Hispanic president of the US) trying to turn CA into their version of Mexico. They fully take advantage of the illegal aliens to keep them in a position of fear; adding to the glut of low wage workers, driving wages down further.
They push for programs that require events such as school assemblies to present them both in English and in Spanish to make it very uncomfortable for both sides. Many Americans despise this form of pandering but fear if they speak out, they will be labeled "Racists".
Bottom line is that the politicians from both countries have sold out the people on both sides of the fence and until the average Mexican can have at least a high school level of education, this won't stop anytime soon. They will continue to come up here in droves, working the jobs "That Americans won't do" such truck driving, heavy equipment operators, and quite possibly Law enforcement and Fire protection too, as those professions are now quite extreme in pay as well.
I'm at a point that we might as well just give back CA to Mexico because in their minds, the aforementioned politicians believe that CA is already Mexico.Last edited: Dec 13, 2008

Let them come!
There is plenty of room!
Look, all of us can trace our lineage back to immigrants unless of course you are Native American, that being said I'm not a Hypocrite and I'm not leaving... I have to welcome them with open arms like it was intended!
Most people forget that "on the backs of immigrants this country was built"!
The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
with conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
a mighty woman with a torch
whose flame is imprisoned lightning,
and her name Mother of Exiles.
From her beacon-hand glows
world-wide welcome;
her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor
that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands your storied pomp!"
cries she with silent lips.
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Emma Lazarus (1849-1887)
That statement and the below picture promises freedom for every one, not just the people that are already here!

Freedom is for everybody... Not just for you! -
Just make sure you follow the laws of this land and do it the right way.
shriner75, misterG and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
All I can say is American legal citizen unemployment is about at least 10% truthfully & probably higher. Lots of people are not counted to keep it low. It is the responsibility of the Mexican gov't to give Mexican citizens liveable employment! Not the USA! We can no longer stand the competition for jobs in our own country. Hell they already have taken some of our factories & relocated them there. It will get uglier as it worsens & it is getting worse every day. Bailouts do not aid common citizens! Rats turn & start killing each other when they get too crowded & desperate for life necessities. Watch it unfold! They now have a US Army centered in Denver, trained in Iraq set up for US disturbances. Read Civilian Riots. Maybe Americans should migrate enmass into Mexico & take everything over as a relif valve from our econoy? I am sure they wouldn't mind millions of GUESTs. I am sorry but I am becoming callused to pity the poor foreigner who just wants to come here & work! Each one becomes a competitor for dwindling resources. Reality- not racism!
