Won't hurt you; apply as many times as you want if you think there's a chance or you then meet the qualifications. @cthomas341 We can give you more names of companies that hire in Atlanta other than Freymiller if you want. Which state do you live in now? How old are you? There is no maximum age in trucking, but some companies only hire drivers over 21,22,23, etc.
If it did not involve drugs or alcohol, or you were driving a commercial motor vehicle most companies won't even slightly care. Assuming you have a clean background and this is your only concern Schneider will definitely be fine with you.
Put some applications in now and see what happens: Senn Freight Lines TransAm Freymiller USA Truck Southern Refrigerated Transport Apply to all of them; the more the better. You're not obligated for any job offers, so pick the best offer. You'll get job offers contingent upon successfully completing cdl school.
I got hired on with tmc with an at fault single vehicle accident where I left the roadway and broke by back. It happened in May 2013, was hired by tmc in August of 2014. Get a copy of the accident report if you can, this way you got it in case a company asks for it. I doubt it'll be an issue, just tell them the truth
I'm not trying to offend anyone, but most of these carriers are so desperate to get warm bodies in their trucks it will surprise you what they will overlook. Fill out the apps tell the truth and you should find somebody to hire you soon.
It didn’t involve any drugs or alcohol but I do have a misdemeanor from about 4 years ago for possession of marijuana. Quit smoking pot years ago so drug testing won’t be an issue. Do you think they will care about that misdemeanor charge?
About the misdemeanor, read the questions on the applications carefully. Sometimes for a criminal offence or traffic offence, the question may ask for just within the last 3 years or 5 years, etc. So, read the questions carefully and don't volunteer any information that isn't asked for. If the question ask about any arrests, etc. within the last 5 years, don't list something that happened over 5 yrs. ago. How far south are you in Florida? Some companies don't hire below I-4 and some are flexible. Do you plan to move to Atlanta as soon as you graduate? When you relocate, you'll have to switch your Florida cdl to a Georgia cdl.
