CB usage

I think the CB has lost out to other things in the cab, like the radio or MP3 players.

We have a more isolated group of drivers in the cabs of the truck than we ever had before and they are still becoming more isolated as time goes on.

 

I agree , but I also think this leads to a more distracted group also. But its still up to each of us to provide an atmosphere where staying alert and watching the road.

 

• You’ll never access your app faster than a CB transmission. Leave it off until bad weather or traffic, then you can get in the correct lane or say stop before plowing into someone. Drivers use to even warn each other of the police (bears) Hell maybe you feel like hearing an argument better they any Jerry Springer show turn it on then can be entertaining to say the least!

 

This is why the Missouri accident involved so many trucks. It seems many drivers have them, but refuse to turn them on unless they are at either a shipper, or receiver. I too run two radios a Superstar 158EDX on ch 19, and on all the time. I run a General Lee for off channel when at a designated place. On weekends, and when near a truck stop i will turn down the radios to near almost off. To me there are to many Radio Rambos, who have to hide behind the radio and talk c##p. The idiocracy , and lack of respect by other drivers has almost become non-existent in our industry.

Heck, just trying to ask for a bear report, i hear crickets.

 

Mack E-6 i agree. Seems they keep radio off until they are right upon the traffic/accident scene. Than try to force their way into the proper lane of travel. The problem is that there are more drivers with the radio off, and then want to complain that no one said anything.

 

In an age where technology becomes more integrated into daily living, it becomes even more obvious to me, at least, that simplicity is cleaner. I get slammed because I still enjoy & utilize Citizens Band Radio in my daily life. Sure cells, apps, Google this or that is easy, but with easy, comes dependence upon something that is not of our own doing. The ability to openly communicate with others by keying a microphone requires personality & intellect. You are using both sides of your brain, creativity & analytical. By your own sheer wit and intelligence, a CB'r seeks & finds by their own doing. A crashed infrastructure, a failure of the power grid, those that intrinsically relay upon technology provided by "others" are doomed to be part of a failure. Those with the knack of personal oral communication and the ability to broadcast information & interpret raw data are truly the last vestige of humanity. Better to be it all, than claim to know it all because of a technology that captured them.
I love CB radio, I like being myself, I like running into others that aren't afraid to say hi. The ones in high places, will soon figure out a way to charge us for the very air we breathe, till then, use the air, use the frequencies the air carries.

The technology that saturated our society does more to isolate than intergrate. I enjoy CB and the interaction of man to man.
