I am going to order a CB radio for my husband as a surprise and I just need to ask a question. I have been reading on here and came to the decision to get a Cobra 29. When I receive it will I then have to take it somewhere to have it tuned? I'm a little confused on that part.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, a CB shop can tune it for you. Alot of the places online (walcott, radioactiveradios, clays) all offer a "tune" when you order it, but Im not sure how good those would be.
The best thing to do is order or go buy the CB and a good antenna (I like Wilson) then take it to a CB shop and have them tune the radio then tune the radio to the antenna on the vehicle. But you can buy the antenna and accesories at the shop while your there.

    Sassy Thanks this.

If you want it peaked and tuned then google Sparkies CB shop.

All his radios are peaked and tuned at no additional cost before they are shipped out.

Also another option is to give him a call and ask him about his cobra 29 HP or his Cobra stealth models. The come with some extra tweeking to improve the receive along with some additional mods for more power. They also come with a better mic in the package.

I have one of his stealth Cobra 29s and I always got raves from others on the other end but I was not sure about it till I borrowed it to another driver in our company and got to hear it for myself. Lets just say that my high end Connex 4300 HP is now back in the box and the cobra is taking its place permenently.

If your husband is not into external amps etc then tll sparky you want it setup to run barefoot. That way all the factory switches and knobs will be left as they are rather then having him use some of the switches for high/low power or talk back control etc.

    Sassy Thanks this.

Sassy,I think you're getting a little confusing info here. The talk about Sparkys 'peak and tune' are true, yes. This is work that goes on inside the radio,to make it function better than it would fresh from the factory. . Nice to have, but not necessary.
But the tuneing, after the radio is installed on the vehicle, means to have the radio 'matched' or 'tuned' to the coax cable and antenna that it is hooked up to.-Absolutely necessary to be done-or you could burn out the radio-or have very poor performance at the least. Hope this helps!

All CB shops are NOT created equal. I can personally vouch for Walcott CB. They do good work. :D Been very happy with them over the years.

A good Cobra 29, with a noise cancelling power mic w/echo and a quality antenna setup can get out quite well, and be plenty loud. :D I've been on the receiving end of my bone stock 29, and it WILL smack you across the head. :biggrin_25525:

Set the echo so all it does is amplify your voice, but doesn't sound like you are in a culvert. Works great. I'm running a [IMG] I have the sliding echo switch slightly more to the left than what is pictured.
