Careless driving ticket help

I have to disagree with what everybody else says here. It is possible for you to get a truck driving job but a rear end collision and a careless (reckless or negligent?) will limit your options.

A rear end accident is among the 5 deadly sins in trucking; some companies will not even consider you. When calling around and talking to recruiters, don't waste your time with companies that don't understand you were involved in a rear end collision and negligent (or reckless?) ticket. Recruiters will tell you are pre-hired and use you to fill up their orientation on slow weeks. Then disqualify from the job at orientation. Just wasting your time.

 

Recently my boss had me take another one of the drivers on my route to teach him the route. This is for relief purposes when I have a day off. Anyways he told me a story about a driver that lost control and ended up off the road. The boss had another truck brought in and had that driver drive that truck. 3 miles down the road the same driver was involved in a head on collision. He still had a job. Amazing but some of these companies are especially hard up for drivers. Its a driver's job market.

The guy said I'm an excellent driver and my still level exceeds what he was expecting from a 1yr, 3mon driver. That felt good to hear that. This was coming from someone who got his CDL 20 years ago and is accident free.

 

I'm just curious why you did the CDL program unless it was offered to you for free? knowing that having a strike against your driving record will effect your employability. Having said that its not the end of the world some will give you a break and others won't so make the most of what you get, the only other advice i'll give you and its free and this will almost 100 % prevent future incidents is when your driving especially in a large vehicle you've got lots of height so you can see quite a ways forward always keep an look out on the vehicles say 1/2 a mile in front of you as well the one's directly in front this will allow you to brake sooner and prevent any rear enders.

 

Go in with a positive attitude , don't look back, you sound like your a young man, and you have nothing but time ahead of you. I really like seeing Chinatown here, he has helped so many new and veteran drivers on this forum. Keep in touch with Chinatown, you`ll do well.

 

Hey, what everyone else says here.. Just apply to a whole bunch of companies.. whats the worst thats going to happen, they say no?

 

At least apply with companies that hire in you're area of Florida and also hire in Atlanta. Contact Tyson Foods and tell them where you are now and that you plan to move to Atlanta after graduation. Those drivers make about $60K - $65K per year. They hire in Atlanta and the upper half of Florida. They might take you since you plan to move. If you already have an Atlanta address, use it on the applications. You'll have to change your Florida cdl to Georgia when you make the actual move.
