Why did I get declined?

First I would like to say hello and that this forum is awesome! Thanks for everyone's posts because they sure have helped me.

Ok, a little about me real quick: I am going to be getting into trucking and have done a ton of research about the lifestyle. Currently I don't have a CDL and I have never driven for anyone before. I plan to get my CDL here in my home town free at a community college.

Here is what happened to me here recently. I applied to Crete after talking to a recruiter. I explained I have not gone to school yet to get a CDL. They told me about their schools they accepted but I wanted to see if I would get accepted before going to one of those schools. She said as long as I have a solid work history (I do) then you have a good chance at being accepted. So, I feel out my application and I just got a letter back in the mail saying I was declined for employment due to my DAC report. This seems very weird to me since I have never driven for anyone nor have I ever had a CDL. So, what could be possibly going on here? I have requested my DAC report from USIS but it will take a while to get it. The only slight possible thing that comes to my mind is that 2 years ago I tried to drive for Swift Transportation. I was accepted to their school and even sent a deposit for the school. However, a week before I was going to go to school some of my family members got sick so I called them and told them I was not coming. The last thing I heard back from them was that they had taken me off the training list. They have never called me back. Could they put something bad on my DAC for that?

Yes they can, US Express put down on my report that I quit, when they let me go out of their Orientation over a year ago, They found where I had been charged with a crime that had been dismissed. Note, I have no charge against me at that time either
It went on my DAC that I quit!
that hurt me for a while.

Thanks for the fast reply. I just have a gut feeling they did that. The recruiter I was working with was Michael and she was even very understanding about the whole thing. I told her I was going to be a long time before I would be able to drive. She made it seem like she took me off their employment.

So, lets say this is the case do I have a chance to dispute this since it has happened so long ago? Also, if I cant get it off my DAC what are my chances of even getting hired on with anyone now?

My hubby hadn't tried to train with a trucking company but still got that letter. It was suggested to me by someone on this board that it was because they weren't accepting inexperienced drivers at the time and it was what wasn't on the DAC.

Normally this might not have been a problem, but companies can afford to be very picky now with the influx of new drivers. Crete is one of the top driving companies and doesn't just hire anyone. It wasn't too long ago that the required at least one year driving experience.

There are companies out there that don't pull a DAC report, but be honest when talking them about getting the Job. Tell them that you were going to drive for X and it didn't work out, and they put a Neg. on your DAC.

I knew Crete was kind of a long shot getting in with me being inexperienced but I wanted to try. It did not shock me at all that I got declined but the DAC threw me off. But it looks like I was not the only one who got this letter though. Thanks for everyone's help and I will update this post in case I do have some issues on my DAC once I get the report back. You all will probably be seeing me on the board often since I am just now starting with this journey. Thanks again!

I had the same thing happen to me when I applied to Crete, I also had not driven but yet received the same letter. I did request my DAC and when I received it, it did not have anything wrong on it and also it did not show that Crete had even requested it.

I doubt swift put anything on your dac report considering you werent even technically an employee with them. Cause even when you are in school with them you arent and employee until you get your driver code which is usually right before you go out with a mentor. Probably declined because there was absolutely nothing on your dac. But you wont know for sure until you see your dac.
