Technology, and the ease of everyday life has made America lazy, dependent upon everything at a touch, and so forth. Technology has added to the obesity rte in our country, and it has added to more electrical devices to make most of the world stupid. That is why there are Smart phones, people needed something smart to do the work, and think for them. Proof that society is dumbing down, and becoming less apt to do thing's the old way. The schools have taken cursive writing out, due to e-signing. Yes!, i own a computer for two reasons, and only two 1) i am in college online, working on my second Masters degree. 2) It helps in my business, in several manners. My cell phone is just that, a phone. No apps, i do not social media (facecrock, instascam, twatter, and so on). It amazes me how we see all the negative reports of hacking incidents in our society, but yet people still do dumb stuff with technology. Dumbing down.
Mudduck, as to your point about Citizens Band and your using it still. I agree, as i run two 10 meter radios in my truck. A Superstar 158EDX, and a General Lee. To many people do not want to do business or personally do things face to face, they'd rather text, or air their dirty laundry on facecrock, twatter, instascam, and so forth. I like running my radio in the ON position at all times, except when asleep. I like to conversate with other drivers, and for many years in the late night hours, hearing and telling jokes to get down the road. It was very useful in the categories of Bear reports, speed traps, traffic conditions, weather reports, and just idol conversations amongst drivers. God i miss the old days.

Yes Triple Digit Bullhaualer, I know it is so true, seems people use their fingers to do their talking, soon our mouths will be only used to stuff food down, Lol.
I do have Facebook & Twitter, but I use those platforms to do advocating for animals, typically shelter dogs but I see a lot of arm chair wanna be rescuers that don't do anything for pets but try and boss people like me around to save every dog, yet they don't do squat for pets. I'm a senior citizen, I'm amazed I can do what I do, but I'm reliant on my wit, my voice, and the wanna be's only do texting, safe behind the key pad of their fart phone. Ha.
Good on your studies, and that you still talk on the 2-way. Numbers at ya! -
My wife is laughing. She said technology is great, until it catches fire in your pocket, bag, or other place lol.
I agree with you technology has its advantages, but not for everything, every day as if it were surgically sewn on one's forehead. When i started driving, we did not have G.P.S, or cell phones. I remember trying to find a pay phone (ohhh, my god i am a dinosaur) lmao. If you went to a new town, or city. Drivers had to buy a street map, do they even sell those anymore? lol
The internet has done so much good for so many charitable organizations. My wife and i donate every year to Shriner's, H.A.W.S (humane animal and welfare service) a no kill shelter, Kids Cancer Center, St Judes, and other's. Technology has it's benefits.Streetroddreams Thanks this. -
Always run with the radio on,i'ts saved me from sitting in accidents several times.
It just amazes me,during a winter storm or after, how I can ask how the roads are for miles, and not get an answer. -
I have had lives saved by radio including my own but these days I'll run with it turned down.
Yes I have a smart phone etc for apps, but I have no time for that bs while driving.
It is unfortunate that all those trucks and cars pile up on our roads in winter weather, over and over and over again. And it will continue.
All the tech in the world will not help you when you come over the hill and finally see one of those developing in front of you.
Even in good weather broad daylight of a hot summer day I had a three lane pile up when someone slammed on a brake in a herd in front of me on US 67 in Sherwood NB. The big truck in front of me stopped instantly as I did I. Everything in front of him and on both sides were a junk yard. With a ASP Cruiser in the middle and several cars on roofs upside down.
Something like that only takes a few moments to totally close a road. You aint got time to tap into a cell phone to see if your lying eyes and ears don't already understand it.
I totally agree with what Mack has to say, but I prefer a attitude that the South shall rise again. =)
Ive already said my two cents, I don't expect the situation to change materially until something is placed onto our Interstates to provide everyone real time warning when the next mega pileup happens years from now.MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
To many drivers either not having CB on, just do not care, or have all their electronic devices (Apps, books on tape, and so forth. These are the drivers to start bit####g why no one said anything about the traffic, accident, or weather.

I think everybody in the world is becoming more
isolated. The smartphone and tablet have replaced
Normal conversation between two people.
No matter where you are, everyone's got there
Head down playing on the phone.
Most get pissed if you interrupt them and
Try to start a conversation. -
Haven't touched mine in 10 years.
Can't stand the idiots singing, making irritating noises,
Or listening to a 4 hour conversation about echo boards.
Here's an idea for someone to get rich.
Make a CB radio radio that I can block anyone I want.
If somebody's acting like a fool I can push a button
And no longer hear anything from his radio.
But I can still hear everyone else.
Just like blocking someone's number on your phone.
Can't believe no one has invented this.
