Hello all. Name here is Jerry. I've been a ham operator now since 1993 . If it looks familiar to some of the crackpots from QRZ () it's because I used to be their cb whipping boy when I was still allowed to post there. You see my radio roots extend back into CB when I was much younger.
First of all, if I hear you operating near me in the 10 meter band the most you'd get out of me is a good laugh (no transmit of course) because if you want to operate illegally that's your thing. I have several thousand frequencies at my disposal to go to. I simply do not see CBers operating in the 10 meter band as a threat. Hell, if you give me a fake call I'll even have a conversation with you. After all, I'm not required to check every call I talk to........Have fun fellas because we all have 80 years of life at most. Make the most of it.
Second, that crap about hams being able to find you in an instant is pure hogwash. I'm sure some of your more seasoned CBers can agree. In order for these idiots to find you they have to use a directional antenna to track you down unless they know for sure you're at some truck stop and then it's only chance. So what if they do find you. You have to be proven, in court, to be operating. That means the FCC has to actually catch you red handed. Some ham recording you does't mean ####. Let them send their recordings. All that does is let the FCC know that there is some truth in the complaint and they will have to send a field agent to record you and bust you. Not going to happen if you're moving around all the time. Hell, 99% of the time the FCC will not send anyone out anyway. They're as tired of hearing these cry babies as we are.
Third, never take anything you see on the zed as serious. Most of the people there are indeed legends in their own minds. They really think they're something special because they have a license in a radio service that uses the term "self policing". You see, I was banned for my position on just how far that "power" extends. Most of them feel as though that power extends to bands they do not have privileges on such as CB and the very well known "free bands" between channel 40 to 10 meters and below 1 to god knows where else. It's my opinion that hams have no business or really no self interest to police these bands for the FCC. Because of that view and some other arguments because I refuse to look up to hams as gods I've been banned. Never been happier.......
That site is a zoo. Seriously, when you're bored just go there and read some of the stupid crap these monkies sling at each other. If they're not ######## and moaning about CB or Freebanders they're screaming their hobby is coming to an end because of the CW requirement being lifted. Hell, they actually believe they're smarter than the FCC. Well who isn't you say? Definitely not most hams. They actually believe they're the frigging RFPD (Radio Frequency Police Department).
I really would like to second one guy's post encouraging you to go to hamsexy and read up on the whackers that embarrass even a guy like me. It's truely pathetic and when viewing this please keep in mind that not all of us are like this but most of the people that live on QRZ are. Fred should be ashamed of himself. This man has created the channel 19 of CB right here on the internet and has disguised it with a URL. Shame on you Fred.
Well folks, I'm way over here in beautiful Al Kut, Iraq taking your tax money and having fun in the sand. I'll be home around September and when I'm caught up on all the sex I'll be on 10 meters. If you happen to drive through Copperas Cove, Texas please give me a call. Just think up a call sign that appears legitimate and yell out for me on 28.375 USB. Looking forward to talking to each and every one of you. Ignorance is bliss eh???

Fellow ham here. Also familar with QRZ and some of the nuts over there. I won't give my call on an open board, cause I don't want this screenname linked with a real name easily...
The no-code thing that they scream about is stupid. Nothing is special about morse code, and to me, it was always a stumbling block because of the requirement for it. I have absolutely ZERO interest in code...I am glad code requirements were finally lifted...made it easier for me to get my license...but the license's aren't handed out like candy like some of the QRZers make it out to be...
I think the hams who are the self appointed radio police are like nosy neighbors who, if you even think about doing something that violates neighborhood agreements or whatever, call the cops, no matter how minor the problem is.
I would like to thank the users of "illegal" export radios who stay in the CB band and make the effort to get your radios adjusted so you don't cause interference.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Getting back to the original subject. The Connex has already been converted if it will work on 11 meter (cb band) After this has been done the 10khz switch does nothing. I would run very little if any echo. A little goes a long way with that. I would also replace the stock mic with either a Road King or Astatic. Then you can run the mic gain almost all the way up with no distortion or feedback problems. If you suspect that a hack job was done on it, I would find a good radio shop and have the tech put it on the bench and check it out. To properly align and tune it requires a scope and a tone generator. If any thing was cut out or clipped (limiters etc) I would have them replaced, after that you will have no worry about splattering all over the place or burning up the radio. I have owned a bunch of radios over the years and like the Connex radios the best. I currently have a 4600 and think it works pretty good. I have been running the export radios a long time and have never had any problems. Also, make sure the antenna is tuned and get the SWR's down. I can reccomend a good shop if your friend ever gets near Denver.
K7DFA Thanks this. -
SWR's are down in the 1.2 to 1.4 range on a Wilson 2000, RK-56 mic is in place and the Super Wack Pack w/ Super Recieve was done to the radio when ordered.................
With that being said, I'm ready for the chastising.
Thanks for your response Brickhauler.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Well your buddy is not going to like this but that Super Wack pack also has a pet name of superhackpack that was given to it by thousands of former users.
Most of the time it just causes the radio to bleed all over other channels above and below the channel he is running on which means he is not putting all his power on channel.
Basically he paid too much money for something a real tech would not charge you for because a real tech would not do that to a radio.
I also don't see that radio lasting long because it does have a heat issue and the Superhackpack may elevate that heating issue. I know that my properly aligned and peaked connex 4300HP gets warm but it alot cooler then it would have been.
I love my Connex and would not give it up for anything. The phrase "Cold dead hands" comes to mind.
It is my main radio and I carry a custom cobra 29 for a backup that talks and reaches out almost as far without the help of a kicker.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Dang, this is a pretty stiff forum.
Just had 4 replies removed that used no foul language.
Guess I better watch how I respond to others.
Yeah Rat, I just knew I would get bashed for the "superhackpack", but that's what I am here to learn about. Even after the fact. Eventhough it hurts
Wonder if anyone will have positive replies on the "super wack pack"? Might make my buddy feel a little bit better.
Heck, after reading all the replies, he's ready to either pack the radio up and sell it, or get it unwack packed, or get a license.................He is confused right now, but keep the replies coming! We need all the help we can get to be legal, aligned and heard over great distances, but only on the 11-meter (cb) bands.K7DFA Thanks this. -
