I'm currently working as a Pepsi transport driver for the Gatorade division out of their Lancaster location.
Pay: Advertised at $20/hr but it's really pay per load.
- $30 per load from Gatorade plant in Dallas to Lancaster
- $20 per load from Lancaster to Chalk Hill
- $35 per load from Mesquite to Chalk Hill
Long distance loads pay a bit more (Abilene, Conroe, Hallettsville, Houston $190 - $256 per load)
For the most part it's lots of waiting when running "shuttles" (Gatorade to Lancaster) to the Gatorade plant in Dallas 12 miles away. Sometimes up to three hours.
Detention pay - $13.25/hr (after 30 minutes)
Benefits are the best part of the deal.
BCBS
Paid Vacation after one year
FMLA paid
Other than all the waiting it's ok -
My husband is currently considering the same position. Currently a yard spotter at Lancaster. Our main concern is pay and health benefits. He has been told by a driver only loaded trailers pay and a lot of wait time as you commented. His pay now is 16.50 per hour, averaging 12 to 13 per day, no overtime pay, benefits which are a joke, no holiday pay or sick pay. No holidays except Christmas and he has been there over a year. Can you tell me if he can expect better pay? From what I have read the benefits are great. Also, can he drop and hook to avoid the wait? Seems to me running deadhead miles would be better than waiting 4 hours to be off loaded and loaded? Also he was told there is also down time when warehouse goes offline, is this true and how often does this happen, and are you stilled paid or not? -
Sorry for the typos!

Pepsi transport- don’t get it confused with all the other jobs at Pepsi- is one of the easiest, and best paying jobs. Most places the transport driver positions go to the guys with the highest seniority in the company. Including the warehouse.
The LEAST I’ve ever seen a transport driver make was 84k and this dude was the laziest guy I’ve ever met in my life. NEVER took the option of being a yard jockey for OT. Literally worked the bare minimum (under 40 hours). That’s been my experience with the transport division at Pepsi.
If offered full time (not part time or seasonal) , take it and don’t look back.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
