Got in an accident while in trucking school, where to go from here?

    Don't know about your situation, but I went thru a Swift school, and they were pretty up front about how the 3 week course was nothing more than an extended job interview. You were by no means 'pre-hired' or had a job waiting upon sucessfull completion of the course. You wernt 'hired' till you received your driver code toward the end of orientation.

    i'm highly weary about 'promices' unless it is set in stone.

    We have assumed Kanstantin was with an instructor. At my school in 1964, by the third week of training two students would take a day-cab on a specified route without an instructor.

    Without a cdl and with just a permit, that would be illegal

    There was no CDL or learners permit in 1964. I had a chauffeurs license because I had chased parts for a trucking company's garage, with a pickup truck. I assume most of the other driving school students were only licensed to drive cars. It would be illegal today, and may have been illegal then. My school had an especially good relationship with the authorities.

    I don't think they would ever turn two students loose TODAY with no instructor on board.

    Matter of fact like the other guy said I'm pretty sure it would be illegal. I was in school in 07 and none of use drove by ourself, it was allways with an instructor.

    On the CDL Permit it said "Must be in supervision of an instructor".

    Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Like slingblade said, more the instructors fault than anything. You know, I'm still in driving school, and my instructor is wonderful. He always makes me aware of all dangers before I approach them. Even if I'm travelling too fast coming up to a red light. He'll tell me to slow down. My instructor told me that his job was to make sure I don't get hurt, he doesn't get hurt, and the truck/trailer comes back in one piece. He makes it very easy for me to trust him, and so far he's done a good job. I've already driven on icy roads, and I basically just told my instructor that I'm not going fast. He was ok with that. With ice, you never know what could happen either, anyone could have a mishap, so don't feel bad about it.

    In the photo, the Dodge day-cab students drove without an instructor is at the far end of the line of trucks. I shared a motel room with the student in the photo. He had been employed by NASA.[​IMG]

    Like the picture. Just look at those roomy sleepers. I don't know which is smaller, the Ford or the IH.

    I have slept many nights with my head against one end, feet against the other, back to the wall, and arm hanging out the curtain.

    When I owned my 7400 White, I would sleep on the doghouse a lot because it was roomier than the sleper.

    If you get your CDL with the school with a certificate of completion then dont worry about it. Most companys dont need for your MVR to be perfect. There are alot of companys out there. You will get a job to get your foot in the door if this one doesnt work out.
