I took my time and researched everything I could about moving from an hourly driver at $28/hour to an owner. I wanted to go with my own authority but ended up with what I think is a better deal for ME. I decided to stay at the company I have been with for 4 years and do a power only percentage rate. It saved me $5000 in insurance to use there fleet insurance. I bought a 2007 Peterbilt 387 cash and just finished my first week and am happy with how it was. The runs are much better than the local too. I grossed $4381 on 1524 miles, Started Tuesday so really only 4 days. I averaged 7.1 miles to the gallon. I just wanted to put it out there for anyone to really do your diligence and study the industry to look for the best situation for them. I will update the ups and downs as I go.

I knee jerked a neg comment because I thought you were trolling for referral bonuses. Then I reread it and realized I am wrong and you seem sincere. My apologies.

Way to go and may it only get better. And you may well find, this was the right thing to do. I know was checking into Insurance and stuff myself. And may well have to start out the same way.

Glad to hear you have good start. Don't waste your "big easy money". There is another side in being an O/O.
Just some small things - engine overhaul, tires, oil fuel.

Best of luck. I crunched the O/O numbers many years ago, and for me it wouldn't work. I love being able to park someone else's headache and go home.

Still, some days I dream about having my name decaled on the side of my own truck. But I'm in love with the idea of it, not the reality. I've driven for O/O's, and I've seen what it takes, which, of course, you already know. Rubber side down, driver.

Thanks Snailexpress. NOOOO extra spending lol. I got all my bills in order before I started so I only need $600/week to live pretty well. Engine had an inframe 60,000 miles a go so fingers crossed, and yes fuel grrr. Even with a fleet discount $3/gallon is ridiculous around here.

    Off to a good start.
$4381 is your cut after carriers cut? And you're power only for now?
For reference on fuel discount my price at Windsor husky today would be 1.11 all taxes and hst included.
7.1 is very good for this time of year.
