I did intermodal with Jb out in the midwest and enjoyed it, however i moved back to my home in NY and like the idea of spanning my wings some more. Is getting on going out for three months at a time with JB as a solo OTR a good idea? Any thoughts. Pay as intermodal was about 800 a week which I was fine with. I have 6 months xp. Once i get over a year xp its than that I will uprade to higher companies, thats if i dont like the jb otr job. I like the idea of otr for long periods as well, as i dont have much going on at home that i have to be around for. Any thought or tips would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone has the inside scoop on how a JBH solo OTR position is like.

Dedicated pays $200 guaranteed daily, plus accessory pay.
Otr is lots of live loads, heavy stuff, and short runs.

Sounds like the "Will Run" position. Talked to a couple of those cats at the lunch counter here and there and none of them had anything good to say about it. Around 2000 miles per week, lots of sitting around for free and they always find some way to keep that hometime pay. Do what you want but id run away screaming bloody murder if i were you.

Yeah like i said 90 percent of the company is intermodal or dedicated ect the otr section takes up 10 percent of all drivers. Well im going to give it a go.

Sounds like to me you will be doing NE regional with an occasional load to stretch your legs. But then no loads to get you back to thier freight lanes.

More than not you will be running parts into Ford at Buffalo like I did with JBH. I only ran with them several weeks. The only two freights worth doing OTR was auto parts or beer from St Louis. The rest of it was eh... so so. But keep in mind this was a experiment after 9-11 at the time and and in a cab over too. Which I warned them against.

I was out of NLR Prothro I-40 and dispatcher was in Fayetteville. I will say that dispatcher was what a dispatcher oughta be. One of the top three ever as far as I am concerned. I'll run into hell itself for him.

But as a overall experience with the Company? HA... the incessant training was make work Hamster wheel BS. But it did keep the drivers from sitting around telling tall stories too much. And that stupid smith road test in a mini van? Come on break my balls why don't you. Having 7 people give me a hard time driving them around town. HA. That was interesting.

It was strictly a experiment. I left within three weeks after taking out yet another car HA.... and you know, they kept calling me back every three months for years. I must have made a impression. But I refuse to believe that for a second. Otherwise I would not be able to get over myself.

Interesting reply, what were you doing? Regional or did they call it OTR. Because im doing Jbh otr soon(drug test results are coming) which for most is unheard of. Was pay close to a grand a week atleast?
