Hey everyone, been driving for about 5 months now and been pretty good keeping my logs correct but it seems I made an error the past month with the 11 hour rule. I accidentally logged 11.5 hours in a 14 hour day. All my employer did was bring it to my attention, then they had me fill out a paper asking why I did it and how I was going to prevent it in the future.
Just wondering how this was going to affect future employment with another company? Or if it would even appear on my DAC
Thanks for your time...

It shouldn't have much of an effect at all, unless you make a habit of it.
psanderson Thanks this. -
lilbit is pretty much correct.
If you get terminated over logs it might have a bearing on employment with someone else, however they will probably be like well I can teach you logs that isn't a problem we have a great log auditor (like me
.
But there is some (very little) that might not hire you.
First thing would be you would need to get fired for someone to deny you employment over log violations.
What you need to worry about is if DOT audits the company they could fine you or the company. So be very careful.Lilbit Thanks this. -
Well, while i think a company can fire ya for logbook issues, its not the end of the world and if its a simple mistake, they will most likely bring it to your attention.
The DOT is getting on carriers big time for having things in place to catch issues and do something about them. Many carriers have set up systems where they give you x amount of violations in x time frame.
I think if the DOT does an audit and finds your log, and sees there is no company action between the comp and the driver, that could be an issue; however, the company contacted you about it and it was discussed...etc. -
Everyone makes these kinds of mistakes now and then. You only have to show the DOT 7 days worth of logs at a stop, so as long as it was more then a week ago don't sweat it. Your company as done what it needs to do and all should be well. Even in an audit, you are okay... as long as you don't make a habit of it as has been said. By the way, hardly ANYONE gets fired over logs. Anyone whose logs are THAT bad probably has other reasons they would not be hired elsewhere!

my question is did you log 11.5 hours of drive time or was it a combination of drive and on duty not driving. This will make a big difference as in HOS you can not drive after 11 hours of drivetime but you can continue to be on duty not driving. However before you do drive again you must take the 10 hour break.

I would like to know some bout loggin myself.. Say you log on at 6pm and drive 6hours which will be midnight. Do my 14 start over at midnight or do my clock still roll to the next day which would be 8am.. be4 i hit my 14 Hope i cleared it up good enough to understand??
-
Your 14 hour clock started when you went on duty at 6pm and does not end until you reset it by having 10 consecutive hours off duty or a combination of sleeper time and off duty time that adds up to 10 hours consecutive.
If you have from midnight until 10 AM off duty then your 14hour clock would reset at that time.
You could continue to drive for another 5 hours up to the 8 AM and then you would have to stop driving due to the 14 hours being achieved. -
Regulations are determined by work periods , not days except when restricting 70 hours in 8 days . When you start at 6 p.m. your 14 hours extends until 8 a.m. .

In this case it will make no differents if you learned youe leasen on being more careful. They did it to show th DOT that they take the HOS seriosly and this is just a corrective acttion. Don't sweat it
