It really depends on what Grade of chain you use. Must securement chains drivers use are Grade 70, @ 5/16" which at most is rated at 4700 lbs load weight. So if you load a 40,000 lb coil than 8 chains are the standard with this grade of chain. which is 37,600 lbs of holding weight. You can see by the chart, there are other diameter of chains with higher load weights, but are not usually the heavy chains used by flatbed companies. -
You only legally need 20,000 pounds securement on a 40,000 pound load.
So five 5/16" is legal. -
How about going from a flatbed fleet to doors that roll up?

-
Roll up up doors are just considered fall arrest systems to the door swingers.Short Fuse EOD Thanks this.

Ouch, got me.
As much as I miss pulling a skateboard, tarping in 35 degree rain blowing sideways, or having them unload a pickled coil that I "Must Tarp" and unload it outside and set it in a muddy puddle of salt and snow run off
I'll stick to rolling up a door and making a whee bit more $$$ -
The door “swingers” don’t need those. Most of them are fat enough to bounce right back up into the trailer.
misterG, Gearjammin' Penguin and soloflyr Thank this. -
Don’t tarp & don’t care if they choose to set their freight in a septic tank, don’t do coils either. As far as the pay, I’m good with what I make & find my freight more interesting & not embarrassed to leave it out in the open for the world to see.
P.S. you know this is all in jest & not an appendage shaking contest right? A competent driver is competent no matter what kind of wagon he’s dragging. Of course, due to the nature of the beast, you find more window lickers doing the common stuff.TripleSix, misterG and Highway Sailor Thank this. -
I've had that bad dream before. Running a Volvo pulling a box waiting in line for a day and a half. *shivers*exhausted379 and Short Fuse EOD Thank this.
