Well I've only been out a little more than a week. We went to FL, then SC, then Canada, and back to NC. As with everything, freight is a little slow and I'm sitting in Laurinburg waiting. The Abilities test isn't anything too tough. Bend over, lift this and that, climb up here and back down. I think most folks could do it. The driving test though... they tell you to go 10 under the posted limit on the ramps, so go at least 10 under. I heard some folks didn't, and got sent home. If they tell you to do it, just do it. So far I like the glass division, but got to learn to wear gloves when I'm pulling tarps. They are so dirty I was cleaning my hands for days. I'm not a clean freak, but living in a truck, you gotta try to stay clean when you can. Just get out there and learn.

I don't know is Maverick had dump valves on their spread axle trailers or not but I find that if I dump mine the spread backs a lil eaiser. By eaiser I me it cuts tighter and does not scoot over as much.

For those of you not familar with a dump valve what is does on a spread is dump all the air out of the bags on the rear axle so it turns mostly on the front axle. And it does not tear up the tires as much.

I appreciate the info, ParkRanger. Have you been sitting long? Sounds like you got some decent miles. My understanding was that they had a good percentage of the glass loaded and already tarped. At least that is what I was told.

Also, are they testing you loaded or unloaded?

    Thanks!

I've been in Laurinburg for a few days, but tomorrow we leave for Canada again. The glass that we've transported has been loaded and tarped (we just need to finish securing the tarps and take them off when we deliver). We had a couple of loads on a flatbed that we had to tarp, but it's not that tough. The driving "tests" were unloaded, but mostly go around the block and that was it. But now we're driving loaded and it's not a test. The hills in VA and WV are sure a lot bigger with a load of glass behind you.

Had an interesting time in Charlotte at midnight a few days ago. Figuring that there wouldn't be much traffic, I was wrong :biggrin_2551:. There was a football game and traffic was just letting out when we got to town. Along with a little construction, it was somewhat interesting.

    ScooterDawg Thanks this.

OK, thanks for letting me know. I am very interested in the glass division, but as I have found... you get much more accurate info from the drivers actually and CURRENTLY driving for a company. I really appreciate your posts.

And yes, I can imagine VA and WVA. I go through there rather frequently when going to the parents home in PA. I can just imagine what it would be like with a load.

hehehehe yeah Charlotte..... hehehehe nuff said!

Thanks ParkRanger! Have a safe trip!
