As far as I know they are still hiring.

They maybe getting picky on who they hire right now.

I know if I ever want to go back to them I will be in the next orentation class even if it is by myself.

I was prehired in June with them but decided to try and find a local job 1st before going OTR but nobody wants to hire anybody without exp so I'm going to call and see if they have any orentation dates set for the beginning of the new year cause I don't want to be stuck on the road during Christmas

Friend of mine from trucking school just started last week with May. I received a prehire from them as well. He said 2 of the 4 folks in orientation were sent packing for failing the road test. My friend said he barely passed. He is supposed to go out on his own after 2 weeks, I think that is too short myself. I think my 6 weeks with Swift with a mentor is about right.
It takes time to learn all the stuff you have to learn to be a truck driver in today's world!

May is not a training company. You are suppose to know your job
already. You may be placed with a "trainer" to make sure that you
can handle the work load and acquaint you with Mays rules, regs
    and way of doing things.

You must be able to prove that you know how to drive a truck.

When I did my road test I failed but I was not sent packing I was issued a trainer.

I was driving a 379 pete which I have never drove before I did make it know that I had never drove that kind of truck in school I mostly used the freightliners at school.

They will send "experinced' drivers packing if they fail the road test. I do know that they may send a newbiee packing if they can not show good judgment while driving the truck.

When everyone takes a test at May they go by the same rules as the cdl tester goes by.

If you hit a curb while turning, if you shift on the tracks, run a stop sign which there are two stop signs at the layton yard one at the exit of the company and one out by the street, there are other reasons for failure I just do not know all of them.

If you have an additude about failing your test that will get you packing for sure.

When I was told that I failed I told the guy yeah I know but it was because I have never driven that type of truck before he said don't woory about it go back to orentation.

The main question should be is if the people hit any of the barrel's doing the backing test? There is no reason to hit the barrel's all of the truck mirrors and some truck windows have G.O.A.L. and the meaning of it spelled out on the sticker.

That is probaly the reason they got sent packing for hitting barrel's and not G.O.A.L.

If the barrel's disapear and you do not get out and look but keep backing up untill you hit them that tells the guy that you will probaly be lazy out in the truck stops and shipper and recivers and cause more accidents by not getting out and looking before you hit something.

I personally can back into a place most of the time without G.O.A.L. but I do not recommend it.

I have also had places were I would move 1 foot and get out and look to make sure I was not getting too close to another truck or trailer.
May actually is a training company in that I mean they will polish up your skills.
They will not teach you how to drive a truck you must know what you are doing behind the wheel.

If you had bothered to check out May you would see they base the training on you not on everone else.
Of those 2 folks that got sent packing was they experinced or were they newbiees from a cdl mill?
At swift you will probaly be living in a pig pen with a nasty chain smoking trainer that can not reach is behind to wipe it.

P.S. do not drink the orange drink in the gallon jugs, or the wide mouth bottles you will see fast that is not orange drink.

sup billy?? I am in training with May right now and I love it. They arent teaching me how to drive, but are teaching me everything else involed with the buisness. keeping legal with logs, blind side backing, ect. the 2 guys from my orientation class both had 6months exp and one hit the curb and the other shifted over the railroad tracks. both sent packing. I had a problem downshifting but showed i could drive and obey the rules of the road. the class after mine, 3 guys were sent packing. one guy hit a trailer when he tried to back up in the barrels. When i did the back up test, i asked if i could use some pull-ups and they said yes and thanks for asking, and I got out and looked at least 3 times b4 i got it in straight. as long as you ask and get out to look, you will have no problem. I,ve been in training almost 2 weeks now and should be heading up to oregon to do my skills test and then another driving test to solo out if everything works out. I dont think i could be with the trainer any longer. im driving at least 500-600 miles a day and like the fact that its not like a team. I am learning alot and i am very happy I went with may. :biggrin_25525:

Hey John, glad to hear it's going well. I'm in OKC right now, we have been to about 15 states in the last 2 weeks. Overall, I'm happy with the truck and trainer (has about 7 years mentoring) and he knows how to teach well. There has been a lot of stress on the personal side as he seems to be pretty inflexible. I don't want to sound like a whining noob, so I won't whine. The work and lifestyle is much easier than the oilfield and I'm having no problem adapting to that side of things.
I really can't ding Swift for crappy equipment or bad training , but YMMV...
Good to hear from you bud, I hear Kevin now and again and he ran into Gary from class in Utah... small world!

take care and everyone here have a great, safe Christmas, hopefully with loved ones!
