Is it possible, that it may be your "right" to attain a certain "privilege"?
Can they? Would the state then, summarily return fuel taxes imposed on fuel purchases I made, because "they" deem driving a privilege? People seem to forget that they(everyone that buys fuel) pays for the "right" to use public roadways. Heck, I pay roadway tax to mow my lawn... albeit, small but I pay nevertheless.
Not really, however I do stand up when I feel Constitutional "rights" are being violated.
Actually, he did say something about the quotes origin. However, the professor was using the quote in context, refering to our founding fathers ideal, that gov't should NOT be all powerful.(ie of the people, by the people, for the people).
Power to the People!

Why do you think the U.S. Gov't reserves the "right" to do anything they want? Is this how you really feel? I'm sure our Gov't would love for everyone to feel this way... I somehow suspect you don't really feel this way.
I agree, if somehow all truck drivers were able to organize, and strike... In very short order in the USA, the military(not just the National Guard and Reserve) would step in and make the drivers work. Think about it, very quickly, commerce as we know it, in the U.S. would grind to a halt without trucking. Food, medicine, fuel and other essentials would start to run out creating a National emergency or crisis... The military would then force truckers to move goods, probably at gunpoint. Are truckers important? You bet!
Those ole' farts in the Senate are and should be bound to the Constitution when making laws. It IS up to us people to keep them honest. Speak up, don't let them tell you what your "rights & privilages" are when you feel your paying for them.
Peace

I was thinking it was around 82-83. We used to go off duty when we entered Canada and start logging again when we entered the States.

Ah, yeah. The fun one they use nearly every time they want to invalidate the Bill o' Rights. Yep, familiar with it. It's been used more times than your average 60 year old lot lizard... and abused even worse.
You like grape, dontcha?

Yeah, then "they" sometimes bring up... dare I say... the dreaded, "Implied Compliance". Again, "they" use this to try to circumvent someone's Constitutional Rights.
Somehow, "they: imply" that you "should: comply"... but fail to show a law that forces one to comply... in other words... Your ONLY required to comply if YOU want to... but "they" certainly "imply" that your to do so...
It's almost comical.

Interesting that no one mentioned King George has decided it is his right to bail out the auto makers against the constitution and will of the duly elected representatives of the people. But then again, the duly elected representatives of the people went ahead and passed a 700 billion dollar bailout of wealthy elite class people against the overwhelming majority of the people. All it took was a little 150 billion dollar bribe package and POOF - the will of the people went out the window. Lou Dobbs reported that the bailout numbers are currently closer to 5 trillion and it is broken down to $60,000 for every man, woman and child in the USA. Staggering numbers...
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."shredfit1 Thanks this. -
Isn't it sad? Then, there is that fact that U.S. Federal Reserve... IS privately owned... By whom, nobody is really sure... But it's likely, owned in part(s) by big business. And our Gov't puts $$$ in and uses(Barrows and pays interest) $$$ from the Federal Reserve... (Our tax $$$)
Let's say auto industry owns a share(s) of the Federal Reserve(certainly not totally implausible)... They get bailed out by the Gov't using the Federal Reserve with the Gov't (or OUR U.S. taxpayers) money. The Federal Reserve then charges interest to our gov't for using said money to bail out the auto industry... IF in FACT the auto industry does own shares in the Federal Reserve... The auto industry stands to profit from interest money it's given from our(taxpayers) very pockets via Federal Reserve money our gov't is "borrowing" from the Reserve. (mindblowing isn't it?)
The Federal Reserve is also responsible for the gov't backed gold or the American peoples gold(ie gold in Fort Knox). Yet the Federal Reserve fails to audit and publicly disclose gold amounts our gov't has...Call your congressman about it! This is the American peoples gold! It's my gold, your gold, and everyone that is a U.S. citizen's gold... The Federal Reserve needs to "Disclose" how much gold we have...Yet they fail to do so!!! Were, we the people, robbed?
sorry this gets me going...

After a thirty years of OTR I would like to put in a few of my thoughts.
My first few years of OTR I tried to make my boss happy by running day and night, working on the truck myself to save him money and spending weekends away from home with no pay to make my boss more money.
I paid for speeding tickets and log book violations out of my own pocket.
I drove fast and careless to get the freight there on time to make the boss happy.
I worried what other drivers thought of the way I drove.
But after thirty years of driving I now drive my truck the way I want to and no one and I mean no one tells me how to drive. I will not get a ticket for anyone,my last speeding ticket was 1983, if the company or dispatcher is not smart enough to plan a load to be carried safely from point to point then I will do their job for them. I will not run all night, my body says sleep at night and that is when I sleep. I will not drive on icy roads, snow covered yes but not ice. I will drive in what ever lane of the highway I wish doing the speed limit, I have paid road use taxes for thirty years and I feel I can use any lane I wish as long as it is legal and safe, and if you large car or want-a-be large car drivers don't like it then pass me, flip me off and I will smile back and wave knowing that you all have a lot to learn about trucking. I have a set amount of money I need to make every year and if the company I work for fails to give me the opportunity to make this amount then I will move on. Now you may ask how this is working for me? I have had 3 driving jobs since 1985 and the first two have told me that if I don't like my new job then come back to them. I enjoy driving a truck because I do it my way, not yours or the companies but my way. Have a safe trip.Markk9, patriotforyou and easy duz it Thank this.
