In reply to ARTEKJUNKE you shouldn't comment about a company if you don't know the facts. You were wrong about USXpress and their treatment of the florida solo drivers. They are in fact calling in the solo florida drivers and giving the ultimatum to either lease, team, or leave. And I mean LEAVE. They DO NOT give you a chance to get a load going to your home area (Like you assume). They tell you to turn in your truck and leave the premises. I know because it happened to me. I wouldn't accept their ridiculous ultimatum and I asked him just exactly how do I get home to florida from Tenn. with all my belongings and my wife and dog. Oh well, they have little to say except rent a vehicle. This is a RUTHLESS policy and everyone should be well aware of this companies policy and treatment of unsuspecting employees. Let me say one more time, THEY GIVE YOU AN ULTIMATUM AND IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT IT, YOU LEAVE NOW. NO ASSISTANCE OF ANY KIND TO GET HOME. NO TIME TO FIND A LOAD HOME. YOU ACCEPT OR LEAVE NOW! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

Here is an idea. Why not agree to team, but tell them you are not getting out of your truck because you have too much stuff. THEN once you get your 'teammate' and a load, get out of the yard, and just start heading home. Regardless if your home is west and your load is going east. Either way the company is going to knock your DAC if you quit right there in the TMs office, yeah?? That is what i would do....

I wouldn't take off with a load and have no intentions of delivering it to get home on their dime. As soon as you pass the state line, you just may be looking at a federal felony and a trip to jail.
Clean the truck out, ups the stuff home and rent a car, fly or go by bus. You don't want a truck abandonment on your record, or worse yet, theft of a load. You will never work again for a reputable company, if anyone for that matter. And in these tight times, you cannot afford it.
Oh, and guess who is going to be billed, or sued, for truck and trailer recovery, along with any fees associated with delivering the load. US Express ain't going to pick up that tab.
And another thing, that abandoned truck and trailer will always have sever damage. And they will come after you for that too, weather there is damage or not. Trust me on that.

If you would choose to do this you would have a teammate named bubba in jail.
Along with being charged for theft if the load they would charge you with Grand Theft Auto you are looking at aprox 200,000 300,000 worth if stuff.
Also how do you suppose to get fuel the fuel card will only work at X locations that the company authorize along the way to the delivery destination.
Have you ever tried to fuel your truck at non authorized fuel stop? I have it does not work.
In my case the location was a listed stop but they some how forgot to authorize it. -
I think the best solution is to team for a short period of time while you look at other options. So what if you team for a week or two. You get money and eventually you'll get home

I worked there from March 1999 to May 2000 and they tout themselves as this Christian company who really cares about their drivers but they will lie to you nonstop. The reason I left is they asked me to do a dedicated account as a emergency type driver at a paper place in Alsip,Il to cover if a company didn't show up and I knew I wouldn't make any money on it so I said no. They then guaranteed me 2500 miles a week if I did them or not which they put on the qualcomm. First week I did 1100 miles and got paid for 1100 miles and they said they would fix it on my next check. 2nd week I got 950 miles and still only paid for 950 I again called in and was told that they never guaranteed me anything. I replied yes you did you even put it on the qualcomm. I told them to put me back to OTR and they said no I have to give them a 6 week notice to leave the dedicated position unless I can find someone to replace me. So I just went home for a few days. They called and I said to get me a load to the yard in Medway,Oh and I would have the truck cleaned out and quit. They begged and pleaded not to quit and they would put me back to OTR so I said ok. I get a load going to Columbus,Oh and they tell me to stop there in Medway to drop it because it had extra time on it and they fired me for demanding to get off that dedicated thing. I was ticked because I still had all my stuff that I would of left at home so instead of a Greyhound I had to rent a car and load everything into it. It was such an accident that I accidently put about 3 gallons of washer fluid in the wrong hole and left the truck running and they had to replace that engine. Amazing the mistakes you can make when you are stressed out and trying to figure out what to do.
