Of course, our companies want us to maintain a low percent(mine wants 30%), but in the winter, its not always that easy...especially when you get into the single digits.
For the non APU'ers in company trucks, whats your idle time and miles driven so far?
Mine is currently 73.2% # 722 miles. Although, I was broke down all yesterday in single digit temps, so this may not be a good reading. Last week, I was around 62% # 2330 miles.

Mine is at 34.06% at 4442. If It gets below zero I don't turn my truck off. Below freezing I start it every 3.5 hours and idle for 30 minutes.

i'm at 22.96% with 3001 miles i dont run my truck unless it is below 30*

Been to WA, WY and CO. I have one of those bunk heating pads and 4 blankets and that keeps me toasty even at 10 degrees overnight in CO. I just pop out of bed in the morning long enough to crank up the truck, turn the heaters on full blast, crawl back in bed and when it gets too hot to stay under the covers it is time to roll on out. I set it on 7 to preheat my bunk but have to turn it down to around 2 when I go to bed or I bake. Cost me around $75 at Petro and worth every penny. My bonus will pay that back and then some!
I'm a pretty tough turkey though. God knows where I get it from because my Mom's idea of roughing it is La Quinta Inn (and she wants to come out on the road with me for a while...Lord help us all!!).

Hey RoadToad what do you run them off of? Don't you take a chance of running your battery down?
-
I think the idle percentage and total engine running time would be a better way of looking at things. I'll run my truck only when it's too cold for my bunk heater to keep me warm. The Mercedes starts like a charm.
longbedGTs Thanks this. -
I've got the Mercedes too, but it can be a real nightmare to start in the cold. I think it's due to my batteries though, I've had to be jumped four times in a two month period. The shop claims to have replaced them, but I doubt it.

Well, I dont have anything as of yet, but next hometime, I plan to pick up a small space heater and a jump pack so I wont take the chance of running the truck batteries down.
It just pains me to hear that companies expect us to 'tough it out' just to save them money. How 'bout this past summer where Im pretty sure my idle percentage was in the low to mid teens. Didnt I save the company money by not idling then? Why cant I 'use' that money now?
BTW, I got a message on the QC from the fuel dept ######## about my idle time and mpg for last week. Normally Id tell em to get bent, but I gotta keep it clean until mid next year. My next company WILL have APUs! No more suffering just to keep 'the man' happy.
BTW, mine is now 65.2% at 1306 miles. Also, they reset my idle/mpg time on Sunday mornings. Engine time is currently 73hr 27 mins -
3 days:4 hours:39 minutes
1837 miles
long idle (>5 minutes): 2 hours 30 min - 6%
Total Idle: 13%
I run the southeast though and always sleep with the truck off in the winter.
Edit: My long idle time would be close to zero if it weren't for this trailer I'm pulling. It sits too low with the air dumped, so I have to run it while it's in the dock at some places to keep air in the suspension.
