I'm looking at getting into trucking and have a solid employment history. What are trucking companies looking for when they verify your employment for someone that has never been in trucking? Dates of employment, etc?

I know they will pull my MVR and do a background check. All that is solid as well.

Not all do good background checks. some do a overview of your criminal history which will pull present data out of the systems while others like me pay for a very good background check which uncovers a lot.

The company that we have do our employment verification also puts in a background check which doesn't say much.

The employment history is a requirement by the feds, kind of stupid to have one but many don't really care what it was.

There looking for you not to lie about anything on your app. Better to list than to need a ride home for pontificating or leaving something out, I have seen plenty of drivers shown the door in the first or second day of orientation.

Yes as previously stated, do not lie about anything at all. They will find out anything that you don't report or that you try to hide.. As far as the employment verification they will usually just be checking to make sure that you were actually employed there on the dates that you listed. They may also make sure your reason for leaving matches up with what you listed.

A good company using CDL drivers local or OTR will start and maintain a driver qualification file on said driver. Then are required to update and review it once a year. For this reason a company called hireright aggregates this information. The company pulls a drivers DAC file in a lot of cases. The thing the company is required to ask for and you are obliged to answer is up to a 10 year employment history for any driving job you have had while holding a CDL.

You need to account for 10 years of your life with no gaps between your work.

I quit Mr Burger in 2012 Jan I did not hire onto Mr Sub to chop food until April 2012.

The problem is not the quitting or the hiring onto someone else. It's the dead time between jobs.

I flew to Turkey as a tourist and then made it into Syria for combat terrorist training to smuggle a bomb back into the USA before i found a nice dumb job chopping food where noone will suspect me of getting ready to bomb a school... durr hurr.

Follow me? This satire will be prevented when you have to account between quitting and hiring in JAN through APR.

Some of the actual real life stories for people in between work hiring periods, are caregiving for the parents or child or relative with no training other than just love and what little they are given from the very few who stuck with them through the difficult time. So they write down caregiving to a relative during that time period between jobs.

It makes uncle sam pleased to see that we are working every day doing something. Not necessarily for formal hiring and firing and wages.

Ive said enough I think I see black helicoptors coming over the tree line LOLZ. ///sarcastic.

Just account for all your time. Whatever you did. You will be be ok as long it's nothing stupid like training to be a terrorist or something.
