As an example, the next truck stop you visit, check the price on a bottle of Windex. I’ll bet it’s over $6. My windows could be crusted over with a three inch thick layer of dirt and I ain’t gonna pay $6.
$8 for a case of water? #### you... no, seriously... ####. You. -
However how do drivers expect truck stops to stay in business to provide all those spaces everyone is clamoring for when they don't buy fuel, meals, or even their morning coffee?
Double edged sword. -

Another diminishing return. As the percentage of pay parking spaces goes over 50%, the drivers who would like to park at say 1:00 PM for a 30 minute break, or a shower and meal and then leave won't be able to find an available space, hence won't be able to spend any money in the place. The non reserved spaces at that time are frequently full, depending on the market. Rockwall TX comes to mind, as do many others. It gets even worse as the day progresses, if you want to stop just to get fuel, go into the store or maybe restaurant for a total stop time of less than 2 hours, you simply cannot do it. That is why lots of guys are now just leaving their trucks at the island, further compounding the problem.
I don't know how TA, or any other truckstop is going to handle this multi headed monster...Short of expensive monitoring of the parking with security personnel. Look for some sort of technology to charge by the minute, unless you buy fuel. That is how valuable this formerly "free" resource is going to get.Dave_in_AZ, Oxbow and easytopleez33 Thank this. -
I buy my fuel there... they can buy a $2 pisswater coffee and a $3 candy bar. And maybe another $2 for a bottle of carbonated sugar water.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I have been a loyal Petro/ta customer for the past 6 years, buying over 25,000 gallons of fuel each year,
in fact, I hold the "prestigious" ultra one platinum card.
This January I decided to ditch them and fuel on truck stops that don't charge to park,
Ambest my first choice, usually they have good food, Love's or any other private places
and to my surprise the fuel cost is about the same or less.
Paying $15,00 a day x 5 days a week= 75,00 a week, no thanks.
But I can use their parking facilities if nothing else is available, I just pay the 15 bucks and feel no guilt for not fueling there.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
