To be honest with you my answer is no.You stated that when operating the delivery vehicle you did not need to have a CDL for that class of vehicle. If a CDL is not required then you are not operating a CMV as classed by the FMCSA.A,B or C.Tractor trailer, heavy straight truck or a small vehicle carrying a placardable amount of haz-mat or a passenger vehicle designed to carry 15 or more passengers.FMCSA,383.91.To show a future trucking company that you have driving experience, you need to show that you have operated one of the above vehicles and a CDL was required to operate the vehicle. If you wish to stay local, try one of the smaller companies in your area that has both non-cdl vehicles and cdl vehicles. You may then be able to start out at the bottom and then get trained in one of their cdl vehicles.I did.Delivery van to class A.Good luck.
Baack Thanks this. -
If you were good with customer service skills with the furniture delivery,...You might want to look into local soda, beer,or food distributors as a avenue to obtain your cdl,.....Probably start as a drivers helper to train and get cdl,...then move into a route as it opens up...Lots of people around here have started that way...

Most carriers will not accept this time assuming it was a non-CDL vehicle.

Well my husband had an interview with the store today, he got the job, they said you need your class C license to drive the trucks (straight truck I think it is), and my husband has a class A. so that would still go as experience right?
-
Again, it depends on the carrier as to what they will except for experience.
-
Well I'm taking it as, its a CMV that he'll be driving, needing a commercial license of some sort to even drive it, that it would count as experience. Thats all I need to know, so I'm happy. Thanks for your replies guys.

No this will not qualify as Tractor Trailer driving..........Even if he were driving a CMV of class B status..under 26,000 lb, this would not be classified as T/T experience........for class A experienceLast edited: Dec 20, 2008

Class B means a straight truck or combination vehicle (truck/trailer) up to 26,000 pounds,...
Class A is anything over 26,000 pounds...... -
You are correct thank you for that......typing too fast not paying attention.
