I notice a lot of drivers order chopped steak at the iron skillet or the country pride. I had one in Wisconsin at a mom and pop truck stop. Everybody should know what makes a good chopped steak because it's a cheap but hearty meal. I'd say gravy mushrooms and onions give it great flavor. Which truck stops have y'all been to that made a great chopped steak?

Big Vern's Steakhouse in Shamrock, TX (I-40 xt 163) has an especially good chopped steak.
-
What makes theirs stand out?
-
Where was this?

I'm trying to think of the name of that truck stop. I think it was on 41 where I got that steak.....I can't remember the city for nothing.... probably because I'm at home and have had several cold ones hahaha
-
They do their own blending of meat cuts. Maybe an 85-90% lean? Nothing in the patty you don't want. Preparation, gravy, etc is all top-notch.Jazz1 Thanks this.

Fond du lac, WI would be my guess, a couple or 3 exits north of 151.
Plainfield, which is farther north, went to Subway now. -
I'm going to mark that truck stop on trucker path next time I run through there. It's always refreshing to have fresh meat as opposed to the mystery meat hahahah

I was thinking Fond du Lac. I wasn't all the way sure...I remember going farther south to get fuel at a shell, and that shell was surrounded by retail stores, with real tight parking

There is a tiny tiny tiny (Emphasis on tiny that fits maybe 5 tables) in a small hitch rail town a few miles south of there. Tumbleweeds out number humans.
I don't go out of my way to order chopped steak but it is a number two fall back in case there isnt anything attractive in the top of menu.
This little eating place has some of the finest food, finest service, the easiest roll as far as not kicking you out asap even though your reefer is 5 feet from the glass doors howling... and wipe the little dust clouds from your table. Constantly working over eveyrthing before you realize that there is a need of it.
I gave the waitress a hundred tip. Told her to share it with everyone if there is enough to go around.
I aint been back due to the way things get scheduled sometimes in trucking. But if they are STILL in business, I will revisit there at least once before the end of my life. It's not much to look at, but it's something everyone should set and eat a while there.
