Why should one become an O/O?

To learn what failure is. That is first thing.

 

1. Ability to work the days I choose to and stay at home with wife and kids when I choose to. Take a week or month long vacation whenever I choose.

2. Ability to go to the areas that I choose to. Avoid the areas I prefer not to travel.

3. My success is dependent solely on my own determination, hard work and performance. Not on how well I can kiss a dispatcher’s ###.

4. I like making more money for the time that I spend working.

 

You forget that an unpaid truck owns you. And if bills are not paid ahead of time, or money is saved you do not take vacation.

 

I assume you're a failure at owner operator(ship)?

For me because opportunity was there and it was affordable enough for me to take the risk.

Correct in most cases.

In my case I have no truck payment on my 2000 Mack. Just purchased a 2019 dry van with cash and built my home myself in my 20s so I have no mortgage.

My insurance is my highest fixed expense at around $1200/month.

I may be quite a bit more flexible than others when they have $3000+ per month in truck and trailer payments.

Everyone’s situation is different so we all do this for different reasons. Those were mine.

 

It can be a tough row to hoe for sure. I personally took many years of evaluating & determining what I believed would be the best plan of action for me. It's worked out as planned thus far. However, as we all know, life can turn on a dime.
