I know this has been asked a thousand times here and on other forums. But I still can't get it straight in my head. Any professional clarification on this would be much appreciated.
This is one of the setups we're considering:
Tow vehicle: F650 (GVWR under 26,000 lbs)
Trailer: Enclosed 16ft (GVWR 7,000 lbs)
Use: transporting my own business inventory
Drivers: myself and employees
Questions:
1. Just to confirm, I need a DOT # since the vehicle/trailer are registered to a business, correct?
2. Do I also need a CDL? I know that it's under the weight requirement. But, does the fact that a DOT # is required, require the driver to have a CDL?
3. Weigh stations and inspections mandatory?
4. Driver drug testing mandatory?
Thanks in advance guys.
CDL, DOT #, drug tests, inspections, all required here?

Class c, F650 does not use air brakes, its 26,000 and under, 7000 lb trailer is also class c.
You may (probably) need a dot number.
Weight stations, well here in CA that would be yes, dont know about other states, pull in park and ask them.
Drug testing would be as per your company policy. -
If you are required to have a dot#,(I think you are), then yes you would stop at weigh stations. Are you only operating in your home state or crossing state lines? If you never leave your state, there are different laws governing your operations as apposed to interstate.

You will also need logs and a medical card for the driver(s) as it's over gvwr of 10,000 lbs.
Logging may only be a timecard if you meet the requirements of the exemption. -
You don't have to drug test under the USDOT program regulations because your GVWR is under 26,001 lbs. The Quickest Overview Of FMCSA Drug And Alcohol Testing Regulations

If not over 26,000 and the trailer is under 7,000, then no CDL. Drug testing goes with the CDL, so no drug program.
If going INTERSTATE and OVER 10K, then yes, DOT, and yes, HOS (Hours of Service, i.e. logging (if over 100 miles from home base), and YES, medical card for the driver, and YES, maintenance program and annual inspections. Check on driver qualification file, not sure on that one.
Weight stations, no in some, yes in others, depending on CGVW. Pull in when in doubt.
If NO Interstate, state rules apply only, and check with your local DOT (scale houses are handy for that). In my state, no DOT required, even on full size semi's if intrastate only. -
You may or may not need a DOT number. In TN, if you only run within the state, a DOT number is not required. Most states do require DOT number for intrastate travel though.
