Iowa used to have lots of scales on the 2 lane roads and even some of the interstate scales are gone .
    80 at Tipton ...gone
    29 at Missouri valley ..gone
    29 nb at salix ..gone
    80 eb at Avoca ...gone
    35 sb at lamoni ..,gone
35 nb at clear lake ...gone .
But they made up for it on roving dot ...anytime ...anywhere .

Iowa was just warned by the federal government that they're not doing enough truck inspections and in danger of losing federal funding because of that.

And the scale at Marshalls Creek on the Ho Chi Minh trail got torched in the 70's. Pissed off a lot of Pa. enforcement fellows.
The bad was they then closed the trail to commercial vehicles, killing the greatest time saving shortcut ever.

My guess would be some roads are just to busy and it can becomes quite dangerous with trucks lining up back to the freeway, the other thing could be financial issues with DOT they can't afford to have officers manning stations?
