From what I gather only exempt 150 miles from pick up. And 150 miles after pick up. Unless I am going to pick up after delivery, to deliver at the original pick up.

I think I understand?
If loaded both ways with an exempt commodity. The exemption is in play on the loading end of trip.
So returning empty, not exempt until I get to the 150 mile radius of loading area.

Not trying to be funny but is he going to pay the fine if he is wrong?

Everything is subject to how the officer feels that day, or they way they interpret regulation. Just sayin.

Eh that growing season part is in the reg, the guidance....pretty sure that is black and white.
Personally I think all folks not actually a farmer moving product( the purpose and spirit of the regulation exemption) are playing a game of chance.
More over it was your statement that made me ask
Folks are told a lot of stuff. Hell I pulled for a guy back in my young and dumb days that would pay overweighht to 99,000. Eventually I realized it was just beating the crap out of me and my truck so he was getting cheap freight moved while I dodged scales.
To each their own man. Just food for thought.
