We have cameras at Estes, but they're outward facing only, and only go off under certain conditions. I can deal with outward facing, but inward facing, no way.

I hear you on that. Outward doesn't bother me, and if the money was right and they were used PROPERLY, I could possibly, POSSIBLY get used to DFC's even though I see no reason for audio on them, and I don't agree with them, but unfortunately that's not the case. When you start "coaching" and writing people up over petty crap that is perfectly legal under DOT rules, then I start to have a problem. To me, an outward facing cam should provide all of the necessary info about a mishap that may occur. A lot of people are using them in their personal vehicles now, and plenty of cases are being won by the OUTWARD facing dash cam's alone.

The outward facing camera is to save the company
    From a frivolous lawsuit.
The inward facing camera is for finding fault with
The driver in case of a bad accident.

You can't sue us, it was the drivers fault.
See here,we got it all on video.
We told him to look left and he looked right.
As matter of fact our lawyers will help you
    Send him to prison. Lol.

Sounds crazy, but that day is coming.
That inward facing camera is gonna put
    Some drivers behind bars.
And the company is going to one pushing it thru.

Whole lot cheaper to send us to jail then pay
    Out a ridiculous settlement.
Let's see we could lose 15 million in court or find
One thing that driver done wrong on that camera and blame it on him.

So is Satan. He's a real nice, tolerant and inclusive guy. You can follow him without even having to believe he exists! What could possibly go wrong...?? ;)

See my signature. When an LTL company needs to act like OTR recruiters, something is desperately, horribly wrong there. You dodged a fusillade of bullets, Dave. Never doubt that.

I've been kicking myself all day, becasue my fall back job oppourtunity fell through this afternoon. However, I took a minute to remind myself that I was following my gut, which "usually" pans out and your post has given me some relief. I appreciate that. I've got a couple of other prospective deals in the works locally, but if they don't pan out I'll be heading out to West Tx to haul frac sand, even after reading the wise words of @Western flyer lol.

I need to get to work, and they'll put me in a truck immediately so it is, what it is. At least for a few months until I have my full 2 years "on paper" if you catch my drift. I can't get on with any of the smaller O/O's that pay better out there but, I think I found the least of the evils that are wanting to hire me. So if that's what I have to do to keep a decent cushion in my bank account until I can get on with a LEGIT company local, then that's what I'll do. I know to some on the outside looking in, it probably looks like I'm a complete moron for not going to Saia, only to end up between a rock and a hard place contemplating the oil field, but as I told my wife, I have goals I want to reach financially and LTL work or fuel hauling is the quickest way.

BUT, wherever I sign on locally, I'd like it to be with a company that doesn't appear to have turned ANTI-driver like the route Saia is going. Until then I'll run here, there, or somewhere to keep the experience rolling until the right company comes along that fits in with my goals, as I like to stay put and not job hop. When you've got mouths to feed, you'll do whatever and if that means hauling frac sand becasue that's the quickest thing I can get right now, then so be it.

But you better believe I'll be looking online and calling prospective employers the entire time I'm out there, IF that's what I end up having to do. I've got a few days for something to pan out locally, so we'll see.

You don’t have a YRC near you? You can still make 70k-80k on linehaul with no cams at all. YRC is beyond laid back. You can do no call no shows and still have a job. It’s a LTL job which those companies do respect even though they get paid lowest in the industry. When I was at Reddaway owned by YRC Old D was snagging up a lot of our linehaul guys. You don’t have to work for the big names to make good money in LTL. I was making close to 90k on my m-f 580 miles a night turn. A lot of hourly pay but I was making good money without the rules, cams, and coaching forms. Then it got cut and turned back to a lay over still was making 80k. Hell if I pulled over and overslept for 2 hours no big deal was made out of it. I over slept my 10 the dispatcher might crack a joke “there he is” If you did that at one of the big names you’ll be in the office explaining yourself. While YRC isn’t on top of anybody’s list it’s a foot in door and still a good job. Just the pay freeze is killing the morale there. But if you work there you can get on with any LTL outfit especially during the summer when it hits the fan and every LTL company needs a driver. If you got LTL experience your hired. But good luck hope you find something!
