Line-haul pay versus P&D pay

I learned at my interview today that line-haul drivers get paid per miles whereas P&D drivers get paid by the hour at OD. With that being said, can P&D drivers do as well as Line-haul drivers in terms of annual income? I know line-haul drivers are making 80-100k. Wondering if that it within the realm of possibility as a P&D driver?

 

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Yea, at OD line haulers do better than P&D drivers. Believe they are earning about .62 cents per mile. For all the reasons that you just mentioned, line-haul is superior to P&D however I'd take P&D at OD as a stepping stone to line haul.

Ok, thanks for the info and insight. My issue is I was offered a dock worker position at OD but it will be pay cut from my current job in sales. For someone without a CDL this is the best way to get one's foot in the door of OD and eventually get into their CDL training class and become a driver. The challenging part is the unknown. I don't know how long I'll have to wait to get into the class. The fact that it's a brand new terminal and that it's growing should only play in my favor but there is still that unknown element of time nonetheless.

 

Nice. Yea p&d is nice in that it's typically day shift. If you can also pick up a line haul run on the weekends that's even better. What kind of hours are you working per week to reach that 70k mark?
