What's the best atlas, and where to get one?

    1) i'm discovering that my GPS isn't always right and

    2) The shortest way is not necessarily the fastest way.

Sometimes you can get the previous years version for half price. Roads don't change all that much.

Got mine of Amazon and EBay. Also seen them in truck stops around end of the year for like $12

I reccomend the paper, not laminated, version because it's less bulky and less expensive so you can replace it every year. The center gap on the laminated atlas makes it easier to make mistakes when navigating across the gap.

My RM 740 has the paper version of the atlas in the Truck Tools section. You can zoom in. You need to get the big picture from the atlas so you can give a reality check to your GPS.

Rand McNally Motor Carrier's Large Scale for me. Easier on older eyes. Laminated, spiral bound.

If you are someone who writes stuff on the maps...get the paper version. I bought one thinking I'd write about places worth stopping at. It turns out the newer paper one just sits on top of my older laminated one. Don't use them very much anymore. Lots of repeat business though so probably different if someone is always going to new places I guess..
