Schneider driver here.
Yep, hazmat isn't required and they'll up your pay a penny if you get it after you start driving with them.
Be a sponge in classroom week one, two, and three. Pretend you learned nothing in CDL school except Pre-Trip and ask questions -every trainer will give advice based on how they see you perform and even more if you ask.
You'll get your assigned truck at the end of week three, you'll have the basics to make money driving by then. Stay on top of your ETA and NAT while on your own, having them posted too soon will get you suck at a consignee with a load waiting on you~posted with to much buffer and you'll be waiting on a load.
Communicate. I'm on the phone with my DBL (dispatch) daily when it's required, leaving them alone when things run smoothly throughout the week. Tell them the appointment is unattainable when you've got a Trip Plan that isn't matching the computer, and your actual ETA so they can update the customer~it'll keep loads moving smoothly.
Know that it's gonna be a possibility that coming out of the house will have you waiting on a load but only because everyone else in your area is coming out of home time too. Patience while in a hurry will be a life saver, it'll keep away the stress.
They will try to get you home on the day you requested, know that it all depends on freight moving to and through your home. Being home the morning after requested may happen~on the other hand if your DBL is told with enough time and reminders that your home time is for a Dr's appointment then you'll likely have a smaller paycheck for limited miles while you're bounced around a smaller area than usual so that you can be home when requested for that Dr's appointment
Every job has something you've got to put up with that sucks, get the negatives out of your head and focus on why your trucking-money. So, work hard and do your best~that way if something screwy happens then you'll be able to tell your DBL with a smile and pleasant voice "Its not my fault but here's how I can fix it" that attitude will get you better and better load choices 'miles'91B20H8 Thanks this.
