Should I upgrade my Rand McNally TND 730?

So I bought the TND 730 when it first came out and was at a TA today and saw all the newer models the TND 740 and the OverDryve 8.

Is it worth it to upgrade to either of these models? From what I have been reading the magnetic mounts are a pain in the butt.

Also, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A so if there are any apps you can recommend let me know. Thanks!

So you say the magnetic mounts have been made to be stronger. Does that mean the GPS unit doesn't fall down every time you hit a hard bump like they used to, or does that mean that the mount won't break as easily?

Is Rand McNally ever going to revert back to the old TND 730 display but with the newer guts, newer higher definition resolution, with the new features, and with the increased speed? The display on the TND 730 to me was formatted perfectly and I wish you guys wouldn't have changed it.

Not to mention, that it didn't make sense whatsoever to change it up since everyone that has been using Rand McNally was already accustomed to looking at that screen and new at a glance where everything was. Hence, changing the screen just to change it was a monumental mistake whoever made that stupid decision.

Indeed, on the new ones, all my friends are telling me not to upgrade unless I want to be pissed off every day because they claim it's impossible to read it while going down the highway. They also say their fingers are too big for the buttons, so they are also always hitting the wrong buttons by accident as well. They say it is frustrating as hell.

I bought my TND 730 in 2014 and have been waiting for Rand McNally to fix the display and get rid of the magnetic mounts on the new TND 740 so I can upgrade, but I haven't heard anything.

My current TND 730 still works fine but I had it since in 2014 so it's getting to be quite old. Hence, I would like to buy a new updated GPS before it crashes on me and relegate my current TND 730 to a backup unit. But I won't and can't wait forever.

Hence, that's the reason I'm asking. I would like to upgrade but as it stands now, I won't upgrade because of the problems with the new model. So I would appreciate it if you could tell me if there are any plans in the works to fix what is wrong with the TND 740.

I may be forced to switch to Garmin if you guys can't get your act together. Which is something I really don't want to do because I know the TND 730 like the back of my hand.

Also on the TND 540, does it also fall off the mount every time you hit a hard bump like the TND 740? I would think not because I'm thinking that unit is significantly lighter but I really don't know. And I'm assuming the display on the TND 540 has all the same problems as the TND 740.

Hey, I have another question. I see Rand Mcnally now sells a Motor Carrier Road Atlas app for the iPhone and iPad. Are you guys going to put one out on the android market anytime soon?

Cause I have a Samsung smartphone and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A like that guy above has. I think that would be a wonderful thing to have on my Tab A Tablet cause you can make the maps as big or as little as you want them to be, unlike in the big and bulky Rand McNally Motor Carrier Road Atlas and it would be one more thing I wouldn't have to carry in my truck.

Hell, even a Windows compatible Motor Carrier Road Atlas app would work well on my laptop. I'd by a new one every year.

Hang on I am going to do a review of the TND740 compared to a TND730 and 710.

710 is old hardware so why use that for a review?

730 is CE based and 740 is Android based. So two different platforms so the comparison would not be equal.

    Thanks

I just did a long long long series of posts about the fight for GPS in my lifetime. A lot of what you have mentioned is there. Same section as this one.

Of course, the platforms are different, but at least we could hear from a current user of both how the newer Android-based model compares with the older CE based model to ascertain if upgrading at this time is worth the upgrade. You know stuff like what's new, what's better, and what's not better. Indeed, the usual pro and cons between the two different platforms and models.

Right now, I'm at my wit's end because I want to purchase a new upgraded GPS and want to relegate my old 730 as a backup. However, everything I'm hearing so far from the people that upgraded early to the 740 is that they wish they could go back to the 730. So what am I supposed to do? I can't wait forever.

I need information to make a decision because I don't have any information. Which is why I asked you my questions. Hopefully, you will help me out. I'd appreciate it.

Why even waste the money when Google Maps does it all better and in real time and with no packet downloads or extra equipment besides the phone itself? Get an iotter holder from walmart.
