Boy i aint had this much fun since the hogs ate my little brother. Let me see we started out talking about a Connex 3300 i believe. Man that is a fine radio when tuned right and set up right i had one for a long time and loved it. I also had a RCI 2950 one of the first ones and loved that thing driving a texas star 500 what a rig. Well then i got my ham license and started running my yasue and kenwood and alinco and those funny sounding radios that really scare those export radios to death. And i ran a 500 wat amplifier and was legal to run 3 time that much and never bled on any ones TV when i was in the truck stop but could talk to my friends all over the USA with the 500 watts and have a great time. Ok now i see people have been all over the spectrum on this thread and even got the guys from QRZ involved man what a mess. Some folks can't let folks be folks. Yes i am one of those that hates to see non hams on 10 mtrs do i say anything about it no that is a dead band 90% of the time any way and the 10 percent its open people are crowded around trying to get a 1010 number like trhe world will end with out it. Please with all the bands we have in the amature world and all the ones that work good why are you worried about one that really should be use for RC control any way. Just my 2 cents worth and i hope i don't make any one mad but you can look up my call any time you wany i have nothing to hide and no fear of any one i work in the comunication field in Iraq every day and have a valid call sign over hear as well so feel free to look me up and see when the last time i was on the air it was about a month ago when i was home and had a good time talking to my friends on 14.302.5 that will make some of you mad i am sure that tryed to run us off there for your dead maritime net on 14.300 that never a maritime mobile checked into have fun and enjoy life its to short to fight over. Cyber Gal keep em straight love and talk to you all later.

Yeah, I never knew a simple question from a newbie about a 10 meter radio would carry on quite like this.
I think my thread got hijacked.
Got to admit though, I'm learning a lot and having fun doing so.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Fair enough, Brickhauler, and good luck with your radio. Just to let you know, the Connex radios are illegal because they aren't a 'better' radio than your run of the mill CB from Radio Shack or Uniden. They're 11 meter conversion radios instead of 11 meter manufactured radios, and unfortunately a converted radio will never be better than a purpose made radio. (More power doesn't make a better radio either.) Also the fact that they're illegal to sell or trade in the US (and the LEOs know that) makes them fair game for the LEOs attention.
Ask anybody in the know at the Pilot truck stops--the Pilot chain was hit by a hefty fine for selling them--tens of thousands of dollars. Thats why you only see Uniden radios at the Pilot truck stop centers now.K7DFA Thanks this. -
I have a ? for you all. I have had big power radios for at least 7 or 8 years. and never had an issue with the fcc and I'm talking 1000+ watts. and a lot of truckers on here and on the road know me. and know I use my power a lot. for info and just to mess with people from time to time. the people that know me know me as (cowboy) with the big black pete. so my ? is how many people on here ever got in trouble from the fcc or dot for your radio? and be real about this!
by the way Rooster 7 watts is all that is legal on a cb anything more is illegal!
and fyi there are not many cb's in trucks now a days that only put out 7 watts.K7DFA Thanks this. -
I seriously beg to differ with you on that one. Having had the run of the mill radios from Ratshack and Unidens and Cobras I can attest to the Connex brand being 100 times better in quality and audio sound. A simple alignment during the conversion to 11 meter and it holds frequency without bleeding. But then an off the shelf Uniden, cobra or Ratshack is not dead on frequency out of the box and they need proper alignment to perform the way they should.
Then lets talk durability. I have had Cobras and Unidens simply go bad from shacking and rattling down the road yet the better built connex radios keep going and going and going.K7DFA and Brickhauler Thank this. -
Thats what I'm talking about. At least one person agrees with me.
K7DFA Thanks this. -
I would bet $100 if you pulled 100 trucks off the road and checked out what they were running 80 of them would have something other than out of the box stock radios. Either turned up cb or some kind of export radio
K7DFA Thanks this. -
Lol, I know I see a lot powerful stuff when I'm checking them in for service.K7DFA Thanks this. -
RULE 10 - Power Output
{A} Your CB station transmitter power output must not exceed the following values under any conditions:
AM [Amplitude Modulation] - 4 watts carrier power [CP]
SSB [Single Side-Band] - 12 watts peak envelope power [PEP]
{B} If you need more information about the power rule, see Part 95/ Subpart E.
{C} Use of a transmitter which has carrier [CP] or peak envelope power [PEP]in excess of that authorized voids your authority to operate the station.
Might want to check your figures on this one before you start telling people what is and isn't legal. Now as to what is in the trucks today i can almost garuntee you non of the trucks radios will pass a 100% legal test they are either over modulated or out of freq limits or flat off Freq by more that allowable tolerances. even if it came right out of the box that cobra sent it in. The quality control at the manufactureing plants is no existant and the FCC doesn't have time to mess with it.crossbreed and K7DFA Thank this. -
thanks man I was alway told 7 watts but thanks for the info. I was not trying to tell anybody wrong. sorry for that part of my post!
K7DFA Thanks this.
