After my Uniden PC78Elite was stolen I looked around and decided to get another one. I ordered one from Sparky's CB shack. Tuned, aligned and all.
I installed it and the SWR is off the gauge (on the radio). The ANT light comes on if I try to transmit and it has awful reception.
I am running a 3 ft. Wilson Firestick and never had any problems like this with the old Uniden. The old one was NOT messed with. Straight out of the box.
What do you think? Screwed up radio, or bad antenna setup?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

first . never use the swr meter built into a radio . always use an external one . a swr thats "off the guage" or above 3.0 is usually a sign of no ground . wilson fiberglass antennas are developing a reputation (sadly) for loosing its connection between the radiating wire and the threaded mount . did you get the antenna new ? did you replace or check the coax after the theft dammage ?

I did buy the antenna new, just about 3 months ago and replaced the cable at the same time. I couldn't see anything wrong with the cable, but that doesn't mean it didn't get messed up.
The thieves unhooked the radio. Actually left the wiring harness behind and unscrewed the ant. cable. -
Have a shop check your swrs, or if you own a decent external meter do it yourself. Check the mount to make sure it is grounded, the stud, the coax, and even the connection on the radio.
