Thank you mhyn for a better explanation than I received at a dealer which had 6 different anti freeze's on sale.
Half the room was filled with pallets of anti-freeze. No answer no sale!
At one time I decided to change everything to ELC when a major change was required. Shortly afterwards I lost the water pumps in a 12.7, 1394 David Brown and two Cummings ( They were all high mileage-HR units) Now I maintain as is unless water pump is replaced. No any mix or combinations.
Now I have to reread about Ultra, OATS and SCA'S.

    mhyn Thanks this.

I have the same issue. I have owned this truck for almost three years and never added a drop of coolant. Few months ago took to a shop, did coolant flush with some flush solution for cummins engines, changed coolant to Alliance Brand extended life red/orange. Now I have a leak in the exact same place. Top right corner. Head Gasket.

How much did it cost you?

Wow. My Detroit 60 has had the red ELC coolant since day one. Flushed and filled (along with a new lower coolant tube) at around 515,000 miles. It now has 805,000 miles on it and not a leak anywhere. Not really sure the red elc had anything to do with other folk's problems.

Oh, also a previous Cummins ISX. Same deal. Got red ECL from the factory. Changed it out at around 500K miles. Sold the truck at 930K miles. Nary a single coolant problem or leak.
