Sorry it's been so long since I posted last. I can post now because I'm finally home. I really have no complaints about the training. As I said I had a great trainer and I know that made things a lot easier.
Problem now is I've been waiting for a truck for about 2 1/2 weeks and I'm being told that it could be another 3 weeks before I get assigned a truck. I just came home on Thursday of this week because I needed to see my kids. 2 months away from them was long enough. unfortunately, I'm home on unpaid leave which means no paycheck for about 3 weeks. And it gets even better. If I'm home for more than 30 days then I have to be rehired and go through the whole training program again which is now up to 300 hours.
Given the current state of the economy I'm afraid that being home for more than 30 days is a definate possibility. So I could lose my job through no fault of my own. Believe me, I understand how bad things are right now but why woudl they keep hiring. It kinda makes me question their management of the company. You can't put me & other students in a truck for 3-4 weeks but your still hiring more students. It doesn't make sense to me.

Hey Mademistakes, do u have a truck yet. my concern is that by the first of next year I will be home for more than 30 days which means I have to be rehired and go through the training all over again. I'm not willing to do that and I don't understand why Werner would ask me to.
You say it's not Werners fault. I partially agree. Yes the economy is very bad right now. But knowing that why is Werner still hiring? They can't put new drivers in trucks for 2-3 weeks then why are they still hiring? Werner owns some of the blame for the current situation within the company, it's not just the bad economy. -
i have a question about werner?how does there pay work?i have never driven a truck before and i have been prehired by them.i have read so many negitive things about that commpany i dont know if i should bother with the schooling.are there any other commpanies that will take newbees other then swift and werner or are they the best choice?

Still at home. Not real happy. And the best part is all the other companies I've called say I either have too much experience because I'm not fresh out of school or not enough experience because I don't have 3 or 6 months of solo experience. So can anybody tell me how I'm suppose to get experience if nobody will hire me? Seems like I'm locked in at Werner now but if I can't get a truck by early January then I lose my job because I'll be home for more than 30 days. This is really starting to suck. All I want to do is work.
