I have been a company driver with them and then switched to O/O. I really like the outfit. Nice friendly group. A solid customer base and, even with the economy now, pretty steady miles. They have 48 state Van and flatbed, and Midwest Regional Van (which I am on). For your location, the 48 would be your only choice. Even then, they are pretty good on planning freight so as to get the 48 state drivers home on a pretty consistent basis. A lot of times, weekly. Good, late model equipment with all the company units getting Tri Pac APU's. The trailers are in great shape and well maintained. I would have to admit that there is nothing stellar about their pay rate per mile, but they also have a quarterly performance bonus of $.04 that is real easy to attain. About all you have to do is not wreck the truck and get your loads everywhere on time. I always got the full bonus each quarter. The main thing is that they figure that if you are away from the house, you need to be working or resting. It could change with this economy, but there is relatively little sit time here. They figure you should be moving freight or you should be home. Not spending your life chasing mary jo at the truck stops. It is usually high productivity while away from the house. So... the potential to make a decent living is there. I have no complaints. It is not the perfect outfit (as if a perfect outfit actually exists), but they do a lot of things right. Very little turnover and they seem to be getting a little tighter on who they will hire. But once on board, they let you do your job and leave you alone. They expect you have a solid work ethic, so they don't spend time looking over your shoulder. Let me know if you got any specific questions.

Thanx so much Cowpie1 on the information on Fremont Contract Carriers. I did fill out an online application with them Sunday,I haven't heard anything from them yet, but after reading what you stated about them, I hope I do hear something back from them.I kinda figured that they woundn't have anything down around here that was dedicated or regional, but if I could at least get home every other weekend that would be fine with. I am divorced and have a 13 year old daughter that I get to have every other weekend for visitation, that would be something I hope they would work with me on. Thanks again Cowpie1 !!!

Getting home every other weekend is very realistic. They would prefer you to get home at least that often and usually more. Give Scott a call at FCC regarding your app. With the holidays coming up, it might not get immediate attention. Scott is a pretty good guy, but he seems to drift into never-never land once in a while! You can tell him that Cliff on trk 555 said that about him. Hope everything works out for you. FCC may not have much of a turnover and not having to beat the weeds for drivers, but Mike, the owner, is always on the look out for a good driver.

I think you will like the move.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I stopped into the office the other day, and Scott acknowledged he had gotten your online app.

Yes I feel bad Cliff I had forgotten to tell Scott what you had wanted me to tell him.I didn't realize it until later that day that I had forgot to say something about it..I called him Friday afternoon to follow up on the application, and he stated they really didn't have anything open as far as company positions right now. Actually I was kinda upset he asked what I had been doing the past 2 years as far as driving and I told him I was running a box straight truck local and that I was wanted to get back over the road again. He stated that they need someone with 2 years experience OTR within the past 3 years. I told him I have 24 years of experience behind me with 11 of them years OTR,but he didn't seem to be interested in me. I didn't realize companys look at that in that way, as long as you have the previous experience behind you it wouldn't matter. Oh well I will keep looking I guess, and see what happens. I appreciate you saying something about me to him Cliff.Merry Christmas to you and yours as well and have a Happy Safe New Year. Thanks,Bob

Sorry, Bob. I guess they are doing like a lot of carriers and getting pickier in this economy. Tie that into not having a big turnover, and the positions are limited. Really hoped it would work out.

Keep your chin up! There are good jobs still out there. They may be a little harder to find in this economic climate. Good Luck!!
